Anyone bought the new roof insulation kit?

I noticed that Deeps put a photo of the new Hymer/Eriba roof insulation kit in the discussion about sleeping with roof up or down.

I am really curious to know if anyone has yet bought one of these or perhaps ordered one? I am really fascinated to find out how useful they are in winter and what people who have used one think about it.

I have talked with Kath about the much cheaper DIY route to insulation but she expresses little confidence in my ability to cut the insulation material in a straight line! Cheek indeed.

I have recently had a fine run of success in bartering down the costs from the AA, British Gas and some other providers and might be able to persuade myself that the money I have saved might be invested in this piece of kit. However it is also my wife's significant birthday shortly and I'm sure she would see an alternative use for it!!!! MikeT

Knowing what Hymer charge for accessories, and the unlikelihood of a lot of use, why not make your own, Aldi/Lidl often have special offers on silver reflective
windscreen shields which could easily be sewn together and attached with some stick on velcro buttons and a fraction of the cost.

Hi Highmiler
I've got some rolls of silver roof insulation that I bought for something a few years ago and didn't use, and would probably be ideal.

However the issue is more Kath's total lack of confidence in my DIY abilities. She the photo of the Hymer kit makes it look well-made and classy and thinks that anything that I try to do will end up looking a mess in her beloved Eriba.

To be fair she has had 37 years of my DIY and is probably a fair judge of its outcomes!!!!!!!!!!!! MikeT

Would you buy a Rolls Royce and then put Aldi seat covers on? I think not so my opinion for what it's worth is to forget the DIY job especially if there's a risk of it being bodged and buy the ready made item from Hymer. I splashed out 70€ for one of their door mounted waste bins yesterday. Sure a plastic bag would have served the purpose just as well but without style lol.

I part agree with you on this one Deeps, in that if the alteration meant physically adapting the van to a point of no return and DIY skills were poor.
But at 229 euro [plus carriage ?] for a piece of insulated mat that you may or may not use for a limited period of time I would be tempted to spend a fraction of that on some insulated matting and stick some velcro on it.
The excess funds could also then go the undoubtedly lovely Kath towards something for that significant birthday. I had heard it was her 40th.

You're not doing it right Alan. In Switzerland we saw a wobbly box couple bringing Lidl shopping back to the campsite in Waitrose plastic bags.
