Eriba dealers and exchange rates

I'm currently mulling over whether to get a new Eriba. I put a post on another forum about whether dealers update their prices according to the sterling/euro exchange rate of the day. I referred to the three dealers I know of as Scotland, North and South, as the very mention of names usually causes threads to go off topic. Below is my latest post on the topic which I hope may be of some interest if anyone is looking at buying new..........

Well I did a little bit of research today. I haven't asked Scotland, North or South for actual quotations, but North and South did confirm that costs on their website were current. Scotland confirmed that they info sent to me in Oct 2104 was at the rate of 86p/euro, but that they had recently been getting 73.5p/euro.

On that basis, and working out a price for a Troll 540, basic with no options etc, current costs would be:-
Scotland £15,537
North £18,640
South £17,740

All include delivery, VAT etc. The basic cost of the 'North' van doesn't include the optional extra of £205 for flame retardent upholstery, so I have added that in to equalise all three specifications.

The prices may vary if you actually approach dealers and negotiate a purchase price. These costs have just been obtained from info on the internet, and I can't confirm their accuracy, but I hope it gives an idea.

The other thing that's worth noting is that I think you pay the exchange rate at the time of delivery, so if you have to wait 5-6 months for the build, the exchange rate may vary in between.

I have no business relationship with any of the dealers.

Cheers Mark

I thought fire retardant upholstery had to be fitted as standard in the UK.

Hi Mark,

With the Scottish firm you can pay upfront in €s for the van prior to delivery which if you have the cash available and your not trading in could be a worthwhile option given the present exchange rate.
I would have done same with my new van arriving late June but as we're trading in the present and will be in France with it until end June not an option for me this time, bad timing I think on my part but at time of ordering it was my understanding that Hymer were able to deliver off production line earlier.
I'm hoping that the £ stays strong against the € for some time or at least until after van is delivered.

Dave,

Your correct all new UK vans and those 2nd hand sold by authorised Hymer / Eriba Dealers must have the fire retardant labels on the upholstery.
Regarding 2nd hand imports sold by any commercial company, these also can only be sold legally if the upholstery has the correct labels but on a private sale for some reason this is not the case. I would suspect that the few commercial dealers who are importing non-UK vans and selling on to an unsuspecting buyer is actually breaking the law, caveat emptor.

That may well be the case, but it's in their price list as an optional extra.

Just asked the same question down south and was told that hymer now charge a standard price regardless of currency fluctuations. This is apparently to stop firms popping up while exchange rates are favourable, only to close when not. Hymer shouldering the changes for good or bad
I'd say the only way to take real advantage would be to order from a dealer on the continent.

Fire retardant seats are only a requirement in the UK I think. So hymer have to supply just us with it while the rest of Europe have the flammable stuff. Bit off to make it an optional extra when they'd break the law if you didn't have it.

Its fire retardant labels that are the requirement,, the Germans certainly do not use unsafe materials on home sales, the safety standards in Germany are in fact much higher than the UK.

Hi Matt / Hazel,

Yes standard price but in €s not £s.
Therefore as now with the £'s strength against the € the actual £ cost for a brand spanking new Eriba makes it a better purchase than it has for many a year.
