Why?

Why is the standard Eriba table so heavy.

I haven't checked but my dining table which seats eight, ten at a big pinch, probably weighs less. Anyway, I decided to construct my own Eriba table from bits obtainable on the internet. So, I bought a lightweight table top, an adjustable folding leg and something called a "table hinge strip" and screwed them all together. The result is a table my wife can handle without troubling me when I am busy with more important tasks like checking the wine stock etc. Now I must be honest, we haven't used the table yet but I see no reason why it shouldn't work and when not in use we can store it in the wardrobe.

Alan

PS. Keeping the original table just in case.

Heavy and also capable of chopping ones fingers off when collapsing it! We are going up to a new Troll 535 from our Triton 420 soon and I sooooo won't miss that darn table!

It is very heavy. We were advised to travel with it on the floor. I can imagine the damage it could do bouncing up and down .....
Why is a very good question.

We removed the table from our van the minute we go it and made a lightweight replacement. The heavy table wasn't in the van when it was written off so it now makes an excellent patio table and lives in the summerhouse. Portable it isn't.

I assume the table in question was a four seater for the larger dinette in an Eriba? We have a 430 with the 2 seat, small dinette at the front, so the table is smaller. What should I do with the table whilst travelling? The fairly heavy table would no doubt help with the nose weight, but is it better to position the table between the seats, as if making up the little single bed at the front, rather than leave it in position on it's single leg?

I have always left the smaller table up on its single leg without ill effect. This adds up to 13 summers of use. If you are unhappy as the table wants to slide a little in its wall track you can slip a piece of card in to give a bit of friction to help it stay where you want it.

Our little front table doesn't seem to move. It's the humongous rear one that weighs a ton.

We always left the little table up without any problems but when we collected our Troll the previous owner told us that he always travelled with the beds in situ, the tables therefore being the bed base.We still travel with the little dinette table in place but made the bigger bed up and left it up for the entire holiday so bit of both worlds.

As with Julie, In our Troll we always travel with the little table up, to no ill effect. I also make up the bed and leave it in situ for the entire trip. The large (and heavy) table is always left at home. My bed base doesn't require the table to be used..

Thanks for all the replies. I think I'll try a bit of both (up and down) with the small front table, and just take a call as to which works best.

I'm relatively new to Eriba ownership, approaching 3 years with a 430GT. We always travel with both tables in situ and at the end of each journey they are still in place - now I hope I'm not tempting fate saying this! I must admit I have thought about tethering them down but as of this point in time it's still just a thought.

hi Alan

I think the tables in the different models must be very different. We have the 540GT with the multi-function beds. We leave our small front dinette table up all the time. The only time we move it is if we decide to eat outside, and fasten it in the groove in the side of the van.

Our larger front table, which is indeed heavier came with attachments to fasten it to one of the long single beds. Whenever we travel it stays in this position and doesn't seem to move at all. If we decide to make the multi-function beds up into a double, the table then fits on the floor inside the door side single bed. As a double bed it has slats that pull across and the table isn't needed for sleeping on.We always do this together as it is a bit awkward to do. So far we have not travelled with the bed in this double position.

We like the sturdiness of the large table and often move it outside to eat on in warm weather, as we find the front dinette table a bit small, other than for breakfast. Having said that there might be a time as we get older that we consider the larger table to be a bit too heavy, and making a lighter one would then seem to be a really good option.MikeT

Having said earlier that we leave the big table at home, the thing I didn't say was that we travel with a folding table instead. This lives on the floor, collapsed, when on the road and, for us, gives greater flexibility for outside eating. The table can be put in the sun, in the shade or wherever we choose to put it for the view and means we are not restricted to eating at the side of the van..

Works for us....

Hi Mike

My Eriba table is the freestanding model and functions only as a table. The lightweight replacement I've built is not freestanding but clips onto the rails inside and outside our Triton 420. It's small but we also carry a larger freestanding lightweight table which we can use anywhere, much the same as cabbie37.
