Just had to pop out and check my 2007 Triton 430 which I have owned for 3 years. It has a Lechlade plate fixed with two self tappers.
Never occurred to me before that it might be a problem and has been there over 10 years without an issue.
I don't think I'll lose any sleep over it :)

Update on my earlier post. Just home after collecting our new (to us!) Triton 420 from AL. Great service from Brian in briefing us. However, there's no AL metal plate on the van. Only an AL transfer on the roof, which looks quite old. Looks like they took on board the feedback!

By the way, we stayed over night at Gorse Farm, near Fordingsbridge, New Forest. Very nice small site with friendly owner.

I, personally, have always found Cameron very accommodating and personable. I would go as far as to say a pleasure to do business with. Owing to the recent thread on the forum with regards to the AL screw on plate under the window, Blueyonder contact Cameron and asked that it not be attached to our new van. Cameron’s reply – no problem I have made a note on the file. Likewise reported problems with bed poles, when approached about this issue Cameron response was, even though the reported problem was small they would reinforce the poles so there would not be a problem.

Even when our beds collapsed in our Triton within a short period of time collecting it new from AL, Cameron sorted out compensation from Hymer to help cover the cost of returning to AL for the warrenty work to carried out.

We have always received a good level of service form AL and looked forward to doing so in the future, though I appreciate they are not the cheapest. As my father used to say “pay peanuts get monkey”!

I speak as I find

Just discovered this photo on a Facebook Page.

Judging by the phone number and the age of the Puck the plate was rivetted to, it's been there a long time.

The 01 prefix on telephone numbers started in 1995, I think.
Judging by the condition I would say that Puck is a fair bit earlier though.

I just don't get the use of rivets, unless they are factory applied ie. the identification/running weights plate. They may or may not cause problems in the future, but why introduce holes when they are not needed?

Agree about the riveted/screwed plate but it is a legal requirement that the number plate must display the name of the person/company who made up the number plate, be it Automotive Leisure or Halfords et al. So if AL make up the plate then this is their free advertising, no need for a rivited/screwed plate?
