Sounds like the most likely reason. As you are probably aware I had a lot of problems with a 2017 Kampa awning pulling out, but no problems with the 2019 version or my Isabella Shadow or Sunncamp Swift. If you could get a 2 or 3 each long sample of a 6.2mm awning chord you could slide this along and find if the rail has opened up in a particular area.

Hi Colin just a thought.....in the event of it being the rail...what's the easiest was to close it up....

I had to repair mine when it was damaged by the Kampa pull out. I managed to close it back up, by carefully resting a piece of timber against the rail and tapping the end of it. I found sliding Fiamma Caravanstore end stops into the channel useful to stop the rail closing up to much.
I would not be surprised if you can get a purpose made tool for the job, so may be worth looking on the internet. If you know anybody who welds then you could have a look at the wide mouth plier/clamps they use. You could grip the awning rail with these over a long area and spread the load when pulling into place.

2021 update.
Devon, exposed hillside location with van rocking, 50+ mph wind and heavy rain.
After 3 nights of severe weather the wind changed direction, now blowing across front of awning instead of onto opposite side of van and started to pull awing out of the channel. This has happened in the area where my Kampa was pulled out of the chanel back in 2017 so it looks like the channel was wider in that area and a weak point.
I'l have to give the track a bit of tlc to tease it back into a better fit when home.

Being a relatively newbie to eriba I’d never heard of awnings pulling out of the awning rail. A. It’s worrying. I suppose if one’s had years of use & straps/guy ropes staking things down😱 I also wonder how much can also be down to the quality of the aluminium & extrusion

It does happen in very strong winds. Our original Kampa Pop Air, version 1, put excessive stress on the ends of the rail and pulled out. Kampa had to redesign the ends of the awning chord area to spread the stress over a greater area.
To be fair my awning track is probably a little more open than when it left the factory., which combined with 50 + mph winds did the job.
It is easy to fix. When home I'll slide a length of greased electric flex into the track and tease it back to shape with a mallet and piece of timber. I may close it up a bit tighter than factory spec.

In terms of size, the kadar strip diameter does vary from awning manufacturer to awning manufacturer. For example, Isabella have an 8mm dia strip, Kampa a 7mm dia and we've even had shades with a 6mm strip. Our old Clairval awning had a 7mm dia.
The awning rail on the Eriba will accept the whole of this range of sizes but the smaller ones will obviously pull out if the wind is in the wrong direction.

Sounds like from one of my previous posts on awnings for my 320 that the weapon of choice would be be the kampa pop air 290. I also suppose this year with everything in demand that there’s no deals 😱 just seems an awful lot of money for the kampa pop air 290 at £825 + all the toys to go with it😱😱! Go out doors Vango air one at £250 when they have stock( also might be a bit narrow at around 260ish)

In relation to Colin's comments about awning pulling out of the rail and Kampa PopAir.

We have the original model and it annoyingly pulled out of both ends of the rail with even a medium wind. However since I very reluctantly followed Kampa;s revised instructions to cut 8cms from the from the ends of the keder beading it has withstood some very strong winds off the sea, from different directions. The wind was so strong that we had to fill plastic bags with sand and stones and add to the skirts on the ground. One night we even dropped the pop top but the awning held firm against the worst the Irish Sea threw at it.

Something in the design was working well. When we looked out next morning there was awning carnage all over the site.

If we had been using the SunCamp Vareo or the Isabella Shadow Canopy I would have taken them down......................

If you look at the awning chord ends on a 2019 onwards, version 2 model, they have added length and a nice big triangular end black fabric section.
What you will not see so easily is the side can be zipped out and you have the option to zip on a short front canopy. These later two developments are also useful.

I don’t know how many different awning rail sizes there are but I suppose some awning manufacturers will possibly try to make an awning fit multiple different rails rather than multiple versions?
