2018 vans have new, more annoying than ever fault with touch lights

I've got a late 2017 which is a 2018 MY spec.

Can you believe that every time power is supplied to the caravan from outside, all the new style touch lights come on and can only be turned off by going inside and turning them off one at a time?

I assure you its true and is a big issue, im not alone. ALL new Eriba's have this problem. If you order them with the factory install battery and charger they fit an in-line isolator to force the lights to stay off on power up. Great, so then you have to faff about with another switch to turn the light circuit back on....

Every time you turn on the car, ALL the touch lights come on, also If you connect the caravan to the EHU, ALL the touch lights come on. not a massive problem in that situation as you are probablly at a camp site when connecting the EHU and not wanting to drive off looking like a float from blackpool illuminations

So, imagine you stop on the motorway services for fuel and it is dark. You have no choice other than going inside to turn them all off after you start the car when you have fuelled up.

The above is absolutely true, I assure you I have not made it up

The good people at Adventure Leisure Vehicles are aware of the scale of the problem and are trying to come up with a fix for owners of 2018 MY vans. To be fair to them, they told me about this before I picked it up and are doing their best to sort it out.

If it's a problem for some owners over here, it'll be a larger problem for Continental owners as the proportion of non-Autonomy vans sold is greater over there. As such Hymer must be aware and dealers will be pressurising for a fix. Probably some bright spark (sorry) in the Bad Waldsee design office thought it was a good idea.

I dont think it was designed in, I think its a consequence of using cheap nasty lights. We have some cheap touch lights at home, 2 x bedside lamps and 2 x standard lamps. If there is a power-cut at home, they always come on when the power comes back on even though they were off when the power went off! This problem with the new lights is exactly the same scenario

Our TV at home automatically turns on after a power outage, so it may be an issue with modern appliances, possibly because they draw so little power that a sudden voltage input starts them off. With the TV we try to remember to unplug before going away as you wouldn't want it to be playing permanently during, say, a three week holiday, with nobody at home.

With the lights you have to assume they default to 'on' when voltage is withdrawn, so that when voltage is re-applied they light automatically. In some situations that might be a positive. So somewhere in them a setting needs altering.

possibly....Im not an electronics person but I bet this problem with the lights and your telly could be avoided with the right design. If, as a species, we can send electric cars to space we can surely make electronic components that come on when you want them to. Its probably all about money as usual...

Hi we experienced a similar situation with our brand new Triton 418 purchased on December 2017 in Catalonia (AD Autosuministros motor Vic). In our case, in addition to the described problem we didn't have 12v illumination inside the caravan while attached to the towing car but with start key turned off (a problem if, eg. during a travel you decide stay parked at night on a motorway area obviously with the car's doors locked).
Well, our AD checked all connections and apparently solved it: It seems they found a bad connection from factory on the wires located inside the wardrobe over the heating. All they did, said to me, was reconnect well the wires. I can't offer much detail over that but both problems were solved (fingers crossed...).
And I can assure you that the problem isn't general for all caravans. When we went to the AD to repairing, we checked with my own car towed to a another brand new Triton 418 in stock and all works fine with it including the strange behavior that has been described in the pots opening this threat.

Regards
