A tyre

WE managed a bit of a tear on one last year, maybe hit a kerb judging by the damage to the rim. A local tyre company took a look and said it was legal as not through to the fibre, but I had it changed this morning. The mobile chappy came and did it in the rain, in the drive, £45 all in.

He showed me the locking wheel nut which was broken, but he managed and suggested it could have been a home made jobby. It did look like it to me too. I will get new one now at Halfords, because I rang AL as we will be close to them at the weekend and they said it didn't have to be from them, nothing special.

Interesting....and I think Halfords might be cheaper.

If it was me I wouldn't bother with locking wheel nuts, Derek.

The chances of having them nicked is next to nothing - your wheels are worth virtually bugger all (I don't mean that unkindly) and they won't fit much else either.

What's more likely is losing the locking nut key and having to get one taken off with brute force.

As above, the chances of somebody pinching your wheels is slim. The chances of misplacing the key are high, and the possibility of the key churning itself up so it no longer fits well even higher.
I have removed the locking wheelnuts on my car for this very reason. I could not get them off when swapping over the wheels. My friendly garage also had problems, taking 1/4 hr to remove two.
