House Insurance

We are looking forward to our adventure coming up soon and have been looking at our insurance cover whilst we are away. Currently insured with LV for house/contents allows 60 days for unoccupied cover. We will be away for 64 days. The policy expires basically mid way through the holiday so if we renew with LV, would we be covered ? I suspect not but thought I would consult the forum.
We have multitrip cover with travel insurance policy but that only covers for 30 days max each trip so will have pay extra to extend I suspect!

IIRC the CC house insurance automatically covers for extended trips, though we changed to LV this year and saved a couple of hundred pounds. There again we're not extended tripping.

We found the same problem a couple of years back when we started to do our trips of 3-4 months at a time.

As pointed out most household insurance will give you 30/30+ days unoccupied cover as standard, some others will give 60 days and some of the specialist will give you 90’s days (but at a premium).

We found that the Camping and Caravan Club (Club Care Insurance) where one of the providers that provide 60’s days unoccupied cover as a standard, however if you were a camping and caravan club member this was automatically increased at no extra cost to 180 days. Coast of membership is £39 for a year for online membership (covers the who family).

Doing the comparisons at the time the CC deal was by far the easiest and cheapest way to get the level of insurance that we wanted. (I appreciate that all these products change. I have been happy to stay with the CC product – though would be interested in others experience from their research in to this topic).

We are members of C&MC and plugged in our details for a quotation for House/contents cover to compare with current policy. It came out at £250 dearer than existing but gave the unoccupied cover of 90 days. I suspect my renewal from LV will more than likely come higher than last year but not that much.
I have not yet inquired from LV whether they will increase from 60 to say 90 days and if so what would be the extra cost?

We used the Camping and Caravan Club cover for a three month trip to New Zealand, we joined the club and the cover was not much more than other offers that did not cover the time we were away.

The problem we found was that the small print says the house should be checked every seven days! Our only family are in Essex 200 miles away.
We ended up persuading a friend to do some checks but I don't think he came round once every seven days. I think he would have said he had if we had ended up making a claim but luckily there was no need.
