Insurance query.
We will finally be getting our 2012 Troll 530 in June this year. Gone will be the WWB🤣🤣. Can anyone advise on insurance please. Is it best to go for market value or new for old? It’s a 2012 model. How much might we expect to pay annually? We currently insure the WWB with Caravan Guard. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you😊

We are with Lifesure and have been for 4 or 5 years now. We pay £265 for £25K for van and awning/fixtures plus £500 personal goods. The Caravan & Motorhome Club are I believe the best, but at a high price. SAGA if you are old enough are also worth a look.
Market value or New for Old? It depends on what they offer, You might or might not have the choice. For value look at the AL website. Nobody sells for higher figures and in the event of a claim you could direct the insurance company in their direction as the largest seller of used vans in the UK.

The CC can be OK for price the first year, but like lots of insurance brands they try it on by bumping up the subsequent years. I've even had them send me a renewal and then write a few weeks later to say they made a mistake and it will be less. Presumably if I'd renewed at the initial high price they wouldn't write offering a lower deal. And for it to happen two years running suggests they do it that way to exploit the early renewers or their admin is seriously bad. There again, their claims service is first class and the policy is written with caravan/motorhomes in mind, whereas some companies you might as well be insuring a dog or bicycle for all the van specific thought that's gone into it.

Since buying our first Eriba from AL, I have used Safegaurd Insurance who were recommend by them. I have tried various other companies for quotes on the Eriba (420GT) but have always found that for most other companies the required security was an issue. The main problem being that most wanted a wheel lock system that is not compatible with the Eriba chassis, when they realise that is not possible they then want factory fitted approved alarm systems and trackers which become very expensive to install.
As for old for new that has to be a judgement call. Having purchased a new van I wanted it replaced if any thing untoward happened.

The CC (now CMC) insurance normally requires no additional security, though there are discounts available for some if fitted, as there are for doing one of their caravan towing courses etc.
IIRC they are new for old as standard for the first five years of the van's life and if you want to keep that going for more than five years then you can pay an additional premium.

I have a policy of never renewing home, car and caravan insurers or electricity and gas suppliers without extensive prior research but I've just renewed with Cover4Caravans for the eighth year running as every time they quote they are substantially cheaper than all the other companies I've tried.
Also, when I had that ding repaired a couple of years ago, they could not have been more helpful.

We have Frank Pickles........I asked about security and they said no maker specific wheel clamp just make sure it had one ....plus a hitchlock.
I made sure I had Euro cover.
At least I can contact them quite easily unlike Hastings Direct who most regretfully have my motorcycle insurance and who so invisable and impossible to speak to by phone email or even post!
I am now very wary of any "on-line insurance".
