I’m going to connect my sink waste to my bathroom waste with blue waste and connectors. Is it advisable to use washing up liquid as a lubricant while inserting the white spacers into the pipe or is it better to use hot water to soften the blue pipe???

I think you could use both. I’ve just used the same method when replacing a tap.
