How to repair damaged table?

When we were touring in France last September I remember going over a badly-marked speed bump at the entrance to a village a little too fast and feeling the caravan bounce violently.

What I didn't know at the time was that a can of something had fallen out of a locker and landed on the table giving the surface a depressed fracture reminiscent of a Bosworth battlefield skull.

At the moment I'm thinking of filling the damaged area with grey car body filler and sanding it smooth with fine wet and dry paper but has anyone any other suggestions before I start?

You might like to ask a local caravan/motorhome dealer if they know of a specialist repairer. I believe there are such folk and they work on damaged house kitchen finishes as well.

There was a table top on ebay last week from an Eriba

You could fill it BUT i'd be tempted to fill it and then recover it with a modern formica type product.

But then i'm not a diy' er

Just had a quick look on ebay the eriba one has gonebut there are Hymer ones on there, i searched for caravan table tops

A new table is £'00s.

I enquired about a replacement freestander for our centre cabinet 540 and it was something like £300 for the table top and £400 for the legs (or maybe it was the other way round) anyway it came to £700 or so. GULP

You could cut a hole underneath and press the damaged top back into place,
or buy a suitable piece of Formica and completely cover the top.

been watching about melting pots on create and craft and the things you can do with the melt.
(cc is quite handy for introducing new methods of craftiness and saves watching repeats on other channels, tis their birthday on thursday with extra hours till midnight)
hales was the demonstrator, but this may be another method for mending.
I think you can watch how to do, on there website to get a better idea.

added link as not easy to locate

We had damage to our table and I went to a local Formica specialist where we bought our kitchen work tops from. He sold me a couple of small tubes and I filled the hole and small cracks and smooted it off, not bad for a non DIYer, You locals should be able to help you.
