That's an interesting point. Will have to check my rear seat sockets as sure the fronts need ignition on !

I use an Anker 20100 power bank, which has two USB outlets. It'll fast charge a smartphone 6 or 7 times. I just ensure it's fully charged before leaving home and top it up in any available coffee shop, restaurant or pub. Most 'off grid' campsites have communal mains sockets, which is a bonus for keeping it charged. I thought I would need a USB socket in the van on the 12v circuit, but now do not think it's necessary.
