juan de arabia is asking:-

Hi all,

Having just got myself a tidy year 2000 triton, I thought I would rectify a few minor defects - so far so good, however one item is bothering me that I can't quite get my head around. Ive noticed that there is rust staining on the bottom of the dimpled alloy of the gas locker door, which leads me to believe that the steel frame behind it is rusting, the design of this is poor, the rain can collect and pool in the aluminium edging frame at the bottom as the joints for this frame are at 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock unlike the Habitation door where the joint is at the bottom allowing water to drain away - any way I have drilled a 4mm hole at the bottom of the door surround and lo and behold out came water.
I can only guess that the steel frame behind the alloy is going to rot away unless I remove and clean it - however I can see no way of dismantling the door for inspection / treatment, does anyone know what keeps the aluminium door surround on, I can't see any rivets or screws.
Anyone out there got any ideas?

Regards John

Hi John.

I think Mike Eribanut may be experiencing the same problem as he asked this question last week :- Gas Locker Door

It'd be interesting to hear his comments.

The gas locker door surround is held in place by 4 countersunk screws that are underneath the sort of draft excluder which can be pulled from its channel.
The surround is also bonded in place with a mastic type sealant which I presume prevents water ingress.
I dismantled mine a couple of months ago as it was completely rotten due to water ingress.

Hi, Thanks for that Andy, thought I was going mad when I could not find any fixings, however - how do you get the brush type seal to come out from between the trims?

If I remember correctly, just pull it with some pliers, the brush type seal should have a soft plastic spine that locates in the groove.

Thanks, Will give it a go when storm Ali abates. This gets me thinking that a similar amount of corrosion must be occurring at the bottom of the main door.
