12v charging

Pick the communal brains time.

We frequently camp off grid and our new (to us) 540 has the new lighting system (and very nice it is too) but we now have no 12v charging points in the van.

Anyone got a fix for this?

Hopefully yours

Hi both.

We bought one of these last year and it does us proud. (Charging power block) https://www.aldi.co.uk/usb-surge-protect...CFUwTGwodJzQDLA

Thanks Roger and Amanda

Useful if you have a hook up, but we do a lot of events without hook up.

Worth looking at this thread, I posted on post #38 and #44
Usb socket swap (3)

Clearcutconversions do a 12v USB charging socket you can add to your van then wire quite easily straight into a 12v circuit on the control panel in the wardrobe.

This gives you 12v USB charging off the leisure battery when off grid (no hook-up).

I fitted mine to the side of the wardrobe - photos in post #44, others had added it next to the socket in the front windowsill - the hole is part cut there for another socket next to the 3 pin 240v socket already there.

Other posts on the thread may prove useful, others have fitted different usb sockets or swapped existing lights to lights with a usb charging socket included.

Eckcan here, since installing a solar panel on the roof, and having a 12 volt leisure battery installed in my eriba, i fitted a triple socket that would normally be fitted to the cigarrette lighter socket. I snipped the ends and worked out what was positive and negative and connected up the cable it then just feed up to front seat area. I am also am installing a new socket with usb connections wired into my inverter just as an extra. Hope this gives some ideas. eckcan😃

We fitted a 12 volt socket direct from the battery. The socket is under the van so that it can be used for a compressor (tyre pump) and for charging the battery from a solar panel. You could do the same but site the socket inside the van, under the seat for example.

"We fitted a 12 volt socket direct from the battery." I presume you have a fuse in there somewhere!

I just fitted a twin 2.4A USB socket into our Triton 420. One thing to watch with these is that they are always live with the power on, so I fitted a little switch so it is only on when needed. Also useful as the socket lights up so you can also kill the light when it is not in use.

I did the same with a switch, surprising how bright it is in the middle of the night.

Too right. I fitted mine to the rear locker under the cabinet (420) so the light is under the bed at night.
