Table storage in a Triton

I have a 2016 Triton 420 gt which has two single beds at the rear which can convert to a large double. Up until now I have only used the single beds but last weekend I attempted to use the double bed option. Quite a flaff one way and another. But the question that arose is where do you store the heavily engineered centre table in these circumstances? Its a blo**dy great big thing and is not easy to manoeuvre when its inside. Do you have to leave it outside or stashed away in your car ?

Leave it at home and make yourself a small lightweight table that can be stored in the wardrobe.

Grape ,
Thats sounds like good advice . I risk getting a hernia manoeuvring the supplied table around . Its an amazing thing though, goodness knows why Hymer thought such a solid item was required in such a small caravan .

We lay ours on the floor below the bed.....it’s out of the way there when bed is made.

Storage of the big freestanding table has moved about over the years. At one time it was clipped vertically against the outside of the wardrobe, later it's storage was moved to under the offside lounge bench. After a few years, attempts to store the table out of the way were abandoned and for nearly the last decade it travels clipped on the top of the offside bench. That means there is a problem with it when you want to make up the big bed. My solution, admittedly with the lighter one legged table, was to buy a big bag and store the table under the back of the van overnight.

Our lives in the summerhouse
That was the reason it survived the loss of our Triton in Germany.

ours is on top of wardrobe in home not eriba,
we use the eriba small one, and a small lap top table, and if need to sew outside on large table a foldable sunncamp, all lighter than the big one, easier to store

We have a 94 Triton, the table drops down and forms a base for the bed leaving storage space underneath.

It does fit in the right hand underbed storage locker, which is where we put ours when using the big bed in our previous 2014 Triton GT, on top of the 'soft' stuff we kept in there like clean towels, linen, jumpers etc. The duvets were in there so we had to lift it up to get those out anyway. However, the table is huge, heavy, you can't easily get in to sit at it and it's generally a royal pain in the **** !! It can also slice your finger when putting the legs up/down 😕

We have one of these in our 2015 Triton. we only picked this up a couple of weeks ago but have this marked as a potential problem. Ours was clipped to a couple of straps on top of the seat but once we had go to our first camp site after about 40 mins we found all of the clips unclipped, fortunately still on top of the seat. It now lives under the seat until I think of something better. If I make up a table with just one leg we would have to abandon the small locker at the back of the van so in two minds, but there is plenty of storage for what we need without it so may go that way. Given how "substantial" the table is, ours is still pretty wobbly.

The handy thing about the gurt big table is that it can be used anywhere and isn't limited to places with appropriate clipping on facilities like the single leg variant. It can move around the van, move around outside, move around the awning and even be used at home and in the garden.

With one of our 540's a previous owner had the not so brilliant idea to turn a perfectly good table into a single leg variant. It was a disaster for the table. To get a straight edge to fix the length of aluminium strip they cut through one end, removing the lovely wooden lip and exposing the internal core of the table. The formica edges were jagged, ripped and broken by the sawing. In addition, by removing the end of the table it had made it shorter, so it was no longer held securely in its cradle under the offside bench. This meant that when travelling the table moved about and the wooden edge rubbed up against the back of the latch on the exterior locker door. This had worn a deep, ugly gouge on one wooden edge. It was a travesty of the beautifully engineered, if heavy, table that the van started with.

We never used it and when we sold the van the new owners refused to take the table and it went to the dump.

I did enquire of the previous owner if he still had the original legs, as I thought I might buy a new top from Hymer and restore it to its full glory, but to no avail. My enquiries as to the price of a complete new table left me in shock for a week over the price.

Our huge table is stored very neatly in the loft. It will get an airing at Christmas as an extension to our humungus dining table. We take our Isabella table if necessary but usually the two of us just use the front dinette.

Thanks to you all for your entertaining, informative
and occasionally useful ideas. I now know that I am not alone in struggling with the table .
