Thanks Colin, good spot. I have just bought one of these from that link, and turned up this afternoon on next day free delivery. No problem fitting under the axle. I wound the screw top fully out and sits firmly on the axle between the shock absorber and the welded on flange but didn't actually jack up the van . Will try that when its attached to the car and not raining. Not sure if this is the best place to jack up from but seems to be fairly secure.

The jack is made by the same people as the land rover one and appears to be the same (just half the price) and came with a long 2 part handle so you don't have to have your head under the van whilst raising it. Also came with a large wheel brace (too big for car/caravan though).
