I use Tesco sterilising tablets, the type used for babies bottles. I have a 35L on-board tank and a hot water heater. I fill the tank up with 10L of warm water and dissolve 9 tablets into this. Next I draw the water through both hot and cold taps and then leave for 24/48hrs. A full flush through is then needed. After this I can usually just about smell but not taste the bleach in the system for the first couple of days of use.

I use Puriclean sterilizing powder which is specifically made for caravans/boars/motorhomes. , it's very cheap and lasts a long time. You have to be careful if you have a water boiler as anything chlorine based will damage it.. Baby steralising fluid does not remove biofilm which bacteria can hide in.

We recommend the use of suitable commercially available products to clean, sterilise and maintain the boiler. Products containing chlorine are not suitable.
