Seeing as it's a Bank Holiday, the sun is shining and the news is all about the 3 b's...Baby Boy and Br.xit !!!!!!!!!!!......I figured I'd take some time out and submit an update on our 2001 LMT.

I finally bit the bullet and cut out the lower front shaped parts of the outer framework.........the amount of rust was even worse than I had imagined. I managed to form new members using an hydraulic pipe bender.....not ideal, but with plenty of forethought it has worked out just fine.

Both the sections have been welded in (I'm not the best welder), but the end result looks ok and should out last us (I'm 73 !!).

The next job is to tackle the rear leg supports and outer framework, where I'm hoping the access will be a little better than the front (the tow bar etc, just kept getting in the way).

Then it's down to cleaning off the rust and scale, painting with an acid etch zinc primer (normally used an alloy, but works well on clean steel). Then a couple of coats of Hammerite should see that side of the job completed.

I then need to repair the floor (now in 4 pieces), when I shall reinforce the cut areas, before reinstalling with additional supports, and held together with dovetailed wooden joiners. A system often used in table tops that have splits in them !!!!

To be continued >>>>>>>>>>>>>>
