roof popped up whilst travelling

Just got home from a trip and found the rear of the roof had popped up. Must be getting punchy in my old age as I obviously hadn't fastened the clips.
I couldn't pull the back down, and also couldn't release the front clips. The back did go down by going up a ladder and pushing down from the top, which was very easy. All back to normal now.

What age is your van? I take it you aware on the post 2010 vans you must drop the back and lock in place before you do the front.

Can I ask why Colin? I pull both ends down and then do the catches, but in no particular order.

Sandy at Jandi told me the same thing. Apparently the "beak" at the front can potentially distort if it is secured first. Sandy's advice was front up first, down last.

AL told me the same.

The sequence as advised to us by A.L. was to pull the rear down (don't clip), pull the front down (don't clip) then fasten the rear clips followed by the front clips. Also advised to leave the door open before starting to pull the roof down. I recently forgot about this, pulled the rear down and when I pulled the front down the air pressure pushed the rear up again! And yes, the reason for rear then front is that if you pull down the front first, the 'beak' can hit the front of the van and potentially mark it.

The other thing about leaving the door open is that (in my experience), if shut, the pressure build up causes the pop top side walls to balloon out rather than being drawn in by the shock cord...

Is this sequence the same for older Eribas?

I don't believe so but it does no harm to get into the habit.

Ours doesn't have a beak so I'm guessing no beak, no worries.

Thanks for the comments. Ours is a 2015 so has a beak. Our instruction from AL was as KeithDM states. I think I was distracted before I fastened the rear clips (happens a lot). Fortunately there was no damage but I found it impossible to either undo the front clips or pull the back down from the inside although it was easy to push the rear down from above the van. After that all worked normally. I am highlighting "check the roof clips" on my pre-driveaway checklist.
