The installation is now complete. This is the layout on the pop-top roof with the cable entry gland.
We've just come back from five days "off-grid" caravanning and the battery voltage never dropped below 13v.

This is where the cable enters the Eriba. Roof up and roof down. It works well.

The solar panel controller mounted in the wardrobe. The cables from the solar panel are routed top left and the solar panel controller plugs directly into the main Schaudt unit.
On a sunny day the panel produced 21v but the controller regulated this down to 14v.
I have'nt made any measurements on an overcast day.

Hi Graeme. Thanks for allowing me to share parts of this thread and paste them into the "How To" pages.

I've now purchased a briefcase type 120w solar panel. I'm going troute the cable from the rear plastic coned gas vent under the rear bench seat of my triton. I will cut the cones top and insert a rubber bung when not in use. This enables the solar cable to be threaded through the cone to the outside and connect to the panel.
I thought long and hard about which method to use but in the end I didn't want to start drilling holes into the roof or using sikaflex to anchor stuff down.
That is a cracking job though, very neat and tidy.

Regarding Jez's idea of feeding a wire from a portable unit and plugging into the power supply unit isn't a great plan. If the power supply unit is one of the Schaudt types like mine, that 3 pin connector is similar to PC power supply connections which are quite difficult to connect and disconnect. You would probably be putting a lot of strain on the circuit board. A better plan may be to permanently wire from the power supply unit to another connector socket near your point of entry. Then connect your portable unit to that. Ideally finding something that is easy to plug and unplug.

Stevejoyce,
precisely what I have done with mine. Hard wired to the battery, through a small drilled hole in the floor and then along to an Anderson power connector block near the front of the van. I can then chain the folding solar panel to the A frame for security.

I totally agree. I'm clever at many things, but there are far more things I'm not clever at. If I cannot do a job and get a result that looks like it's been done professionally then I will not do it.
