can anyone give advice regarding metal superkettle de scaling, its fairly bad, due to a small error in water filter changing in the jug we use to refill..
tried warm water with
lemon x water for 4 hours to no avail
dishwasher tablet x water again not moved
1/4 clear vinager x 1/4 water, but vinager lost its ability to dissolve the limescale was left overnight
would bi carbonate work?,
anyone know another method?

Hammer and chisel?

I'm surprised that vinegar didn't work and I don't think Viakal is suitable for use in food equipment.

Let us know if you find a solution to the problem.

No idea if you have a DM shop in the UK or even if this product is available - Essig Reineger - https://www.frosch.de/index.php?id=353&n...ogprods_s_prods[item]=50&tx_n98frogprods_s_prods[rubric]=3&tx_n98frogprods_s_prods[action]=detailView&tx_n98frogprods_s_prods[controller]=FrogProducts&cHash=603f668277bed3534ef3b3d8bab30fe7 . This stuff contains vinegar but also a touch of lemon I believe. Anyway, it's excellent but the secret is not to leave it to stand hours on end which I've found does absolutely nothing but rather to keep re-boiling it. I place an egg cup full into our household kettle followed by an equal amount of water - bring it to the boil half a dozen times (takes seconds with such a minimal amount) and bobs yer Uncle - a nice and shiny kettle. And believe me, our water is so hard that you can easily knock yourself out just rinsing your face.

I've heard of people using steradent tablets dissolved in water for this use. Never tried it myself but maybe worth trying.

1hr later some nifty work with the plug switch to save over heating, no further progress

also surprised vinegar didn't work,

teeth still attached, thought it would be a long while before using steradant amazing what other uses

don't think we have a DM, but thanks for info

We use a sachet of descaler which you can buy at the supermarket. Think they are thee sachets for a quid.

went to supermarket this morning, just finished de scaling
the superkettle had limescale all way up sides quite thick layer, added water to full mark, boiled then added 2 sachets, waited 10 minutes no action in the kettle, tried boiling no action added the 3rd sachet went for rolling boil with lid up, took 15minutes before the scale started moving, now looks brand new inside, decided to reuse solution to de scale gas kettle and a pan.
thanks for all suggestions
one of the ingredients in this descaler is Lactic acid

(country files on bbc deeps might find this weeks episode interesting)

Now here's a strange thing. When we arrived at Exe Valley last week, I mentioned to Mrs C that our 20 year old, 2-cup electric camping kettle element was badly scaled and that as a result we'd probably be needing a new one soon.

Two days later, however, I noticed that the bottom of the kettle was absolutely full of scale deposits that had flaked off the element and the element was to all intents and purposes clean.

I did notice that the water in the showers at the camp site was incredibly soft (lots of shampoo lather) but I've never before heard of soft water actually de-scaling a kettle. I don't have a 'before' picture but this is what it looks like now.

Lactic acid, Oust is the commercial name, works a treat.
We used to have a soft water plant at work and its very nature
made it attract "dirt" I checked it one evening and found the tank
full of coins that someone was cleaning for sale on e-bay, they
were as bright as the day they were minted, something to do with ions
