new 240v socket

I have just got round to adding a 2nd 240v socket to the fridge side wall. This was mainly to save having to constantly unplug and plug in the heater and kettle etc.

Turned out to be quite simple (on my 2015 Triton 420 at least), as there was a spare position on the connector block on top of the fridge.

I didn't have a lot of luck sourcing an original socket, so purchase a CBE C line series pair of sockets with square frame which are generally available and reasonably priced. Turns out these are identical to the original ones fitted (except the socket part is a slightly different shade of black which doesn't matter as I replaced the original one as well).

The connectors (Wago 711 series 3 pin) do not appear to be available in the UK but purchased a couple from a German site . Bought 2 as the carriage was more than the cost of the connectors. These came with cables attached so just a case of wiring it to the new sockets, enlarging the hole and plugging it in.

The hardest part was getting the top off the fridge cabinet. In additional to the screws each side you also need to take off the top external fridge vent and remove 5 screws fixing the aluminium shield to the underside of the cabinet top. This has to be done by touch as you can't see them. It was a lot harder getting the screws back in again.

I’ve decided to fit anew 240v socket below the cupboard on the lounge end of our Troll 540 gt. We purchased her in 2020 and have missed having a socket at that end. I’ve sourced the parts needed and will make a full record as I fit it. In the meantime, I have put the links below for the socket and cables.

Socket: Werbung: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/252084956823
Cables: Purchased from Radio Spares. https://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/power-cab...mblies/5003751/ And https://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/power-cab...mblies/5003739/

There is one spare 240v connector on the Wago distribution block in the void behind the Truma fire. The cable run appears fairly straightforward. I’ll take pictures as I do it.

Stewart, Clearcut are my goto supplier for sockets etc. They are very helpful and will do a mix and match for you so you get exactly what you want regarding outlets, back boxes, facias etc.
If you want to gain a feed for any more sockets and avoid the cost of the special leads, or have no outlets to plug them into then have a look under the sink area. If you empty it out and unscrew the bottom panel you will gain access to the mains. It is easy to fit a junction box and run a spare as you would on a domestic circuit. The only difference is a caravan does not have a ring main like your home supply.

Under the sink.
There’s a similar one in the void behind fire.

OK, thanks for that, really useful. I’m using the one behind the fire, but hit my first hiccup. The distribution block is female, so the male to female lead from RS fits with the male plug, leaving the female as the fly end. However, the plug to unterminated lead is also female so won’t plug in to the fly end as an extension. I will need to source a 3 pole male plug to swap over, then I will have a cable setup that conforms. If I ever sell that van I want it both safe and consistent in fitments.

The connectors you need are the Wago 770 Series 3 way Winsta Midi.

You can't have too many sockets, we've 9 dotted around the van.

Good evening I am already thinking of putting in more sockets, please could you tell me if is this the extension lead I need to extend to extra sockets connecting from the connector under the sink? Wago 3m Power Cable, 3 Pole to 3 Pole, 16 A, 250 V

Also I would just normally feed from a junction box and not from the Wago connectors is there a problem with this. Also what grade of wire do you run to your sockets thank you Morphy

I have used 1.5mm 3 core flex for my mains extensions. This matches the wiring used in manufacture. It is rated at 14 amp plus. In open air it will take up to 20 amps. The two trips in my "consumer unit" are 10 amp and 16 amp so I'm happy with the capacity of my flex.

Thank you Colin would you use the Wago connectors or run a spur into a junction box and wire the sockets up from there if that makes sense to you.

I did the later, picking up a supply from underneath the sink. At the front of the van I ran a spur directly out of the window ledge socket.

Is that connector under the sink a 1 in - 2 out or is that empty both sides, so necessary to bring another supply into it to provide for the 'out' on to the new socket? I've just started exploring our 2017 Troll 540GT to find where I can pick up power to wire in a few new sockets, hopefully with USB (waiting to hear back from an email to Clearcut as to whether they supply cw USB)
Having explored the van I couldn't find an easy to pick up power source without having leads trailing around so my next turn was Eribafolk where I found this thread

I've now been able to have a much better poke around under the sink and can see that empty connector has a black lead coming into it, so presumably no use for pick up to new socket. Next move, as per Dave 'Eribamotters' is to unscrew the base of the sink cupboard to find what is there and, hopefully, run from there towards back of van. I want to put 1 straight double socket inside the outdoor locker and one double cw USB's in the panel under where the loose cupboard slots at the rear of the van, between the 2 single beds (I know I'll lose this if I make the bed into a double but, heyhoe, can't have everything but may have rethink to see if anywhere else I can add some)
