Hi All
I'm purchasing a 530 (it'll have a few extras but I won't be loading much in there - maybe 100kg) and will need to drag it from the North to the Midlands. I've got a Passat 1.4 TSI petrol 2009 - 122 bhp and 200NM torque . It's legal limit is 1400 Kg, so legally I can Tow, but will it manage the hills? I'll stick to the A - roads so I'm not expecting anything too harsh. Should I expect to be in the crawler lane thrashing the engine in 4th to maintain 50 mph
Thanks

It won't be the best tow car in the world but it will get you from A to B. I would take motorway. They tend not to be as hilly and there will be less gear changing.

Thanks for re-posting me Aaron. Thanks Williebraveheart - I will stick to the motorways. In answer to Randa, it's post 2000, I'm guessing that with the motor mover, awning, gas bottle - it'll be 1100 kgs in total

You should be ok if you take it easy, just be careful pulling out into traffic as you will need a large gap to avoid them catching you up, you may need to use your gears a bit more than usual in order to keep the revs up regarding the momentum going up hills. I use to drag a Familia @ 900kgs with a 1300cc engine pushing out 101bhp/110Nm.
200Nm isn't that bad for a small 1.4 petrol engine
