I have a simple question. What are your thoughts on which is best for towing. A manual gearbox or an automatic. I know it may come down to a personal preference in the end but interesting to hear your views non the less.

Hmm. Interesting. Auto 2 Manual 0. The reason I ask is that I am part exchanging my 1.2 TSI Auto Petrol Yeti for a 2.0 TDI 4x4 Manual Yeti ( more grunt )
The DSG box on my 1.2 petrol Yeti is lovely but I actually enjoy changing gears as well.

I thought the general consensus was that auto boxes are now the better choice. I seem to recall reading they are also stronger.
When I changed from my 2.0L diesel 110bhp manual Yeti I looked at an auto, but the extra £1000 dissuaded me and I stuck with manual, but I must say that I'm happy with my choice.
As an aside, I moved to a 1.5L petrol Audi A3 which pulls my Triton better than the Yeti. Yes t it does have 40bhp more but the all important torque is the same.

Well, if you like your DSG box and you also like changing gears then you would enjoy either/both - we have a DSG box with the steering wheel ‘paddles’ which I never use but one could, no doubt, to get a semi-automatic.
I cannot think of anything worse for the left ankle and knee than to be stuck in very slow moving traffic and having to work the clutch all the time - I had to sell a beloved manual car a couple of years ago due to the gip I was getting in my left knee even from normal driving so you might consider the state of the joints in your left leg before making a final decision
