Hymer - Eriba 2020 onwards

What have we heard from dealers or seen in the press?
I'll start with comments from Leisure Vehicles and Lowdhams of Nottingham.

- No changes for 2020 Eriba models, ie, crappy hinges and poor grade plywood continue.
- No big Hymers being built for 2020. New materials and technology being introduced and a change of factory.
- Best guess that this will work its way down into the Eriba pop-tops.
- Standardisation of cabinetwork in the expanding motorhome maket and larger Hymer caravans suspected.
- Massive and embarassing mistake made with the Eriba 820. A UK market may exist but the vehicle cannot be sold in the UK as it is 80mm too wide.
- UK Airstreams to be made on same production line in the US as the American models. They are trying to standardise as much as possible in order to get costs down.
- Airstearms are going to be up to 150kg heavier due to different chassis, sourced from Europe, so they are looking at how to reduce internal weights.

Curious, the maximum allowable width of a trailer according to Gov website is 2.55m and the 820 is 2.36m

The 820 comment made to me was a surprise s I thought it was within limits.
Does the 2.55 width relate to vehicles towed by commercial vehicles as I recall the wide bodied German vans could not be towed by cars in the UK but they could by vans and pick-ups etc as they were registered as commercial vehicles.

Hi Colin,

Pretty clear here:-

https://www.gov.uk/towing-with-car/weight-and-width-limits

Says ‘any towing vehicle’

I suspect what’s stopping it being sold in the UK is the price!

The maximum width allowed was increased from 2.3m in 2010 to match the EU (pre Brexit)
