attach image to a PM?

Hi,
just tried to add an image to a private message and was unable to do so. Have I missed something obvious or is it not possible? Had to complete the PM by email to send the image.

I have never been able to do this either, so you are my equal in intelligence or ignorance.

Hi Ray (and Colin).SNAP.

I'm not at all technical when it comes to all these fancy terms that are used but I do know that the way I have been able to post photos on the PM system is when I used to store them in "photobox" or similar including a "Facebook" profile page. Now for the uncertain bit. It's because they are then given a URL?? number?
Please correct me someone as I don't know my URLs from my ABCs. Also, I've just now tried sharing a photo by PM using our Flickr pages and that will give a link address like this:- https://www.flickr.com/photos/68379569@N.../in/pool-eriba/ which will also work.

So then, we are correct in that it is not possible to attach a photo. You have to attach a link.

I can't try it any more Colin as I closed my Photobucket account but I'm sure that I was able to post a photo and not a link by finding the URL number?? they gave it.
I don't think you'd be able to post a photo from your own photo files.

You can't add an image you've got saved on your own computer.

You need to use an external hosting site from which you can copy and paste a link - Google Photos is probably the easiest since most peeps have a Google account anyway.

The problem is with PM and not posts.

Ah! I thought it might be a hosting problem.
One would have thought that the forum board would have hosted the image as they do for ordinary post.

I can stop looking for a magic button then. I do use Google photos and also Facebook and that would work if the recipient of the PM also used those accounts.

Sorted by email any way this time.
Thanks

The person you're sending the message to doesn't need to have a Google Photos account.

It just provides a hosting service for your photographs.

One you've uploaded the picture(s) to Google Photos (or a Google Drive or Imgur, TinyPic, Dropbox or whatever), the site will provide you with a link (URL) to that photo which you copy and paste into the body of your message using the URL button above the row of smileys in the message composition box.

When the message containing the link to the location of your photo appears on someone else's computer or phone, they can open it in exactly the same way they would open any other external link.

Sounds like a foreign language. If you are a bit thick like me, who is lost on the techie speek, it's a lot easier to swap e-mail addresses.
