Awning suitable for a Touring Triton 420 - please
in Anything Eriba-related Wed Apr 08, 2020 8:18 pmby Jon100 (deleted)
When the virus lifts we hope to be off travelling. We have a 2007 Eriba Touring Triton 420 and were thinking of buying an Isabella awning. Does anyone know which Isabella awning will fit or are there other even better more suitable awnings?
Thanking everyone for their advice - keep safe

I believe the Isabella awning you need to look at is the Capri. PooleDweller, Robin and Pat have on of these, but I'm unsure if it will fit a pre 2010 lower height awning rail Eriba.
If you want a traditional style awning it is I believe as good as you can get. 2nd hand you could look out for a Soplair or Van Der Horn.
If you wish something with a rounder shape then a Fortex Aronde is arguably the best you can buy, but at near £2,000 it should be. The Unico Verona is a similar shape, a little lighter in weight but also a stunning looking awning.
If looking at an inflatable, value for money I believe must go to the kampa Pop-Air 340. The excellent purpose made grounsheet is a must, but do NOT buy the gutter strip or storm straps. These awnings are a bit quicker to put up and a lot quicker to take dowm.
Be prepared for a fair bit of contradictory opinions on awnings as they are a very personal thing. It basically boils down to do you need one, as a good quality canopy such as a Fiamma Caravanstore or Isabella Shadow could meet your needs. An inbetween measure not to be overlooked is a Sunncamp Swift Van 260. Others will also suggest you look at drive-away motorhome type units.
Best of luck - Colin

You should be able to pick up a second-hand Soplair (I think ours is a 'Bourgogne') for around £150-200. They are superbly made, very stable and can be used as a full awning or, with the sides and front either removed or folded down, as a sunshade.

The alternative is a sun canopy (like this Wigo). These are easier to erect and excellent in hot weather but have the disadvantage of offering no protection from the wind.

Having had a Vanderhorn, I would agree a superb awning but prone to roof pooling in heavy rain, with our present Eriba we have a Walker touring+, water has never pooled on the roof, and once up has withstood a fair amount of very bad weather, its made in 2 heights for pre 09 [low rail] and after 09 [high rail] and several sizes.

Hi Jon & Julie, I've got a Soplar awning for sale - it's a very sturdy awning which came with out Triton when we bought it in 2018 - we've only used it a two or three times but have now turned to the dark side and got an air awning. We're looking for £175 ONO and are based in East Kent.

Hi Jon & Julie
Just a thought really from our limited experience.. We are relative Eriba newcomers having had our Troll 540 for 3 years.
We started off with an AL porch awning which was fine in many ways but had a metal frame which made it a bit heavy but the big issue was it seemed to have a lot of pegs to put in. I had a dodgy hip and this caused me a lot of pain.......so
We got one of the first Kampa Pop Air 360 inflatable awnings. There is a lot on the Forum about owners experience with these. some people love them others have less positive experiences with them. Ours has been both brilliant (staying upright in a storm on Walney Island when others blew away) and horrible (not being able to pitch it on an uneven site in North Wales) and me coming close to throwing it in a bin. Probably our overall experience is in the positive but it does take a long time to pack away on site when it is wet.
But then someone suggested we looked at an Isabella Shaddow sun awning as a possible alternative - can't remember now if it was someone on the Forum or someone we net onsite. We are smitten by how quickly it goes up and how for two of us we can usually find a position to sit in our chairs and stay dry. It is clearly not an awning like the other two but its flexibility has won us over and we are not sure if we will ever use our other two awnings again.
Somewhere on the Forum is a picture from Randa about how his wife knocked something together as an end piece for the Shaddow to give extra shade and protection from rain. We intend to steal his idea and produce something for ours.
I guess what I am saying is awnings are not cheap and we have spent over £1000 on our collection when perhaps we might have been better starting with the Shadow. Whilst saying that the Isabella & Walker awnings do look brilliant when you get them up. I guess you pay your money and take your choice.
Good luck
MikeT

Mike,
these people might be of use, but you may be a bit spoilt for choice with fabrics https://www.esvocampingshop.com/en/tent-...n-en/polyester/

Thanks Colin
This is a really interesting site but I see what you mean about choice.
I think I may still have some decent material in the loft from an old Brandt (German?) tent that we bought when we had a young family in the late 1980s, but it is a really dull green that Kath would not let me attach to the Isabella & Troll. This site would offer her the choice of colour which would go down well........... Something to think about..
Cheers Mike

Hi,
Thank you for your private email reminder to look on the forum.
Recently we’ve been over occupied in growing veggies, digging for Britain, in our locked-in garden.
Yes obviously we’re really interested in the offer to buy your awning.
I previously had read about problems with awnings fitting Eriba vans, specifically as specifications change over time. So we researched the age of our van.
Originally we thought (for the last eight years, d’oh!) that our pride and beauty was a 2009 Eriba Familia Touring 320, but from the plate on the van we now believe we have a 2007 Eriba Triton 420. Going up in the world, although we might be wrong again ...
So I suppose the question is, do you or any others on this forum, know if this awning will fit our van? Assuming it’s a Triton 420 ....
The price is not a problem.
Best wishes Jon and Julie

All Tritons built prior to 2010 are the same height. Each specialist manufacturer made just one shape/model of awning to fit these vans. The only noticeable difference netween the manufactures would be small differences in framework and in pole material. The Soplair above will fit your Triton. You may however need to get three small brackets if none are allready fitted to your awning rail.

Hi Jon and Julie
I’m late with this message but if you haven’t acquired an awning yet, I have a Walker Touring Plus awning designed for the Triton 420 for sale as I’m selling my 2007 Triton. It looks great with the van and hasn’t been used much.
Get in touch if you are interested.
