Guy rope toggles

I've never got on with the cheap plastic bits you get on "value" awnings, so I copied the idea from my Isabella Shadow and made some replacements for my Sunncamp Swift.
Make sure the holes only just big enough to let the guy rope through, and if you can counterbore a flat bottomed hole for the knot to sit in. I used offcuts of Iroko/teak but any hardwood should do.

Hi Colin,

It looks like you have countersunk the holes slightly which is generally good practice
However,In this application doesn't the toggle rely on the friction of the guy rope cutting through the toggle at an angle? If so then a sharper edge would increase the friction and thus the grip.

Not a criticism just showing an interest in something that I might copy.

I have put a light countersink on the top hole as I couldn't get the 4mm rope to go through the 4,, hole and needed a slight feed in. I'll have to see how they work. With any look I'll get to try them in July if we are allowed away.

Just another thought Colin.

Most guy ropes that I have seem to have a nylon element. When cutting them I used to melt the end with a match to stop them fraying. At the right temperature perhaps the end could be rolled in to a conical form which would be easier to introduce in to the 4mm hole.

Done that. I've mastered the art and through wetted fingers avoid the burns.
