Hi there,

I have agreed to buy a 2008 Puck L 230 GT and cant wait to pick her up as soon as I can do the 400 mile roundtrip. I' so excited as this is my first caravan. I'll be travelling solo so its perfect for me, maybe my cat who is leash trained.

Hi Jago and welcome to Eribafolk. I think most folk would agree that you've made a great choice of van. The Puck L is very popular and is therefore much sought after.

What car are you using to tow her and have you had any towing experience in the past?

Randa

Hi Randa - I am a total newbie!

I have never even towed a trailer never mind a tow bar! I have VW Golf match edition TSI 1.4 automatic - it has more 'poke' than the diesel 1.6. I have yet to get a tow bar fitted, when i can pick it up my mum ( has caravan ) is coming with me in her car with towbar.

So lovely to have a whole community helping!

I'm sure others will be able to fill in the numbers for you better than I can but basically the payload is the amount of gear you can load into the van, by weight (load) before the van reaches it's maximum laden weight. (MTPML) for towing.

It's a bit of a dodgy figure because the kerb weight of your Puck L (MIRO) could vary, dependant on the amount of additional items youve had screwed on to her. for example a mover, a battery, a hot water system, an internal water tank etc.

Your Puck L will have a VIN plate fixed, normally on the outside next to the door, which will tell you what the maximum laden weight is to be. It may be a good idea to take your van to a weighbridge when it's empty and get the actual kerb weight for her.

It's also a good idea to have it weighed when fully loaded, it scared me when we did, we were 100 k over.

Welcome Jago68

I'm sure your excellent Puck will bring you lots of fun.

I was a complete novice to towing a caravan when we got our Troll three years ago. The advice we got from these guys on the Forum was a brilliant help to us. Don't be afraid to ask what my seem daft questions as someone will know the answer and be able to help you out,

Happy days......MikeT

Welcome. You'll find that you get into the towing mode fairly quickly. It's basically a matter of think in advance and watch the swing on corners. Don't worry.
Towing mirrors are a must with Milenco Aero being the preffered choice of many. You'll find the optional VAG towing bracket feet are worth buying due to the shape of your mirrors.
Don't forget to use the search facility to find out about towbars. PF Jones take some beating. A swan neck, fixed or removeable, is nice. Remember dedicated towbar wiring loom on a 13 pin electrics coupling.
