Hot Water System Retrofit
Hot Water System Retrofit

Given the likely changes regarding site facilities post lock-down, we decided to look into the fitment of a 10L (?) water heater to our 2019 Troll 540. Already have the 30L fresh water tank fitted under the left front seat. AFAIR, the hot water tank is placed under the left rear seat, adjacent to the battery compartment, which means we will have to reduce the amount of bedding (duvets etc) that currently fills that space completely.
A.L. quoted me £660 for elect only and £1000 for elect + gas (!) but in any case Cameron reckons it would be the end of the year before they have the time to carry out the work. Any recommendations for potential installers? (We are in N Wilts).

Keith, how practical are you? The worst of the work has been done for you in that you have the onboard tank and hot/cold taps already.
You would need to drill one 50mm hole in the cabinetwork to take the switch and the rest of the work would include feeding some plastic piping through the cupboards and tapping into the 230v circuit. If you have the capability to add a spur 3 pin outlet to your house electrics then it is within your capabilities.

Thanks both of you for the helpful replies.
Colin - in days of old I probably could have - but knees, back and other issues rather rule that out. :(
Randa - I'll keep an eye on that thread. Or can mine be moved over there?

I came across this on YT - fitting a Truma ultrastore hot water system to a minibus conversion. I reckon it looks feasible on an Eriba. It's something I may consider doing in the future. I like the idea of a hot water system and some research shows that this is probably the best - gas and mains powered. It's what I had in my old van and it was generally trouble free.

For info.
Last winters project was to add hot water to ourTriton 430, 2018- fixed rear bed model.. It has x 2 sinks both with a single 3 way solenoid tap. It originally it had x2 small under sink cold water tanks with submersible pumps which I found were not easy to fill and seemed to need filling on a constant basis. All a bit waffy , weighty and wet.
Instead we decided to replace them with an external roller tank and a Whale submersible pump with empty/stop sensor, & then tapped it into a switched and fused 12v supply. (need a socket in the side of the van)
We bought a Propex 10 lt. insulated hot water tank and fitted it transversely under the double rear bed. There was a 240v Consumer unit x2 RCD box with a spare outlet all ready fitted in the wardrobe. After a tussle with the supply of the rather strange Czech plug to fit it, I ran a fused 240v supply through an illuminated switch to the Propex.
I used flexible water pipe -blue and red, fastened with stainless hose clips & connected the pipe runs through various hopefully hidden holes. Several non return valves were fitted.
Because the system is now fully pressurised & the whale submersible pump is pressure sensitive I blanked of the tap solenoid supply& removed the fuse from the 12v. fuse box.
After testing I fabricated some lightweight guarding round the various protrusions to protect them from being bumped or rolled into by the awning and sundry paraphernalia stored within.
It was very reasonable 2-300 quid. Also we have “under mattress” heating for winter.

Excellent job. It'll make a massive difference.
A couple of questions please.
-What made you choose the propex over say the ultrastore?
-How did you get the h and c piping to the kitchen?
-what taps did you use? I was thinking of this for the kitchen when upgrading. Reich mixer tap which looks similar to original only with hot water. Screenshot_20200907-153057_copy_768x1365.png - Bild entfernt (keine Rechte)
- what tap did you put in the shower room? Is that a mixer too?
Many thanks,
Stan
