Corrosion problem

Just been giving our 2002 Triton some TLC ahead of 1st getaway next week. I noticed some paint bubbles and rust patches close to rear steady. After rubbing at the paintwork with a piece of emery the paint came away revealing a small perforation - about 3-4 mm across.
I fear that there are one or two other "pin holes" in the same area . Whats the best way to treat this, is it a DIY job or I need to call in the professionals? ( are Bodie and Doyle still on the go?)

Help please!

I really do feel for you. I'm afraid you are looking at a professional repair job, and not cheap. I have these folk bookmarked for repairs https://www.slautomotiveltd.co.uk/ but I recall another company recently being mentioned that did a wonderful job on the lower frame and rust. Use the search facility and you should find it.

Thanks, i'm going to check out a couple of local dealers for more options.
I've also found a bodyshop repair place in County Durham, a bit closer to home.
Cheers, Ian

Hi Ian. There's also one on the south coast of England called "Spitfire Motors" that the illustrious Mr Calder has used which of course is no good to you being at the opposite end of the country.

However what it does say, bringing together the other two recommendations above, is that you should be looking for a garage or coach builder that specialises in repairs to rally cars etc. and have all the necessary equipment to deal with delicate aluminium bodywork.

Quick update .
We have found a bodywork centre in Co Durham. Really nice guy called Micheal. He has done repair and warranty work for Adventure Leisure at Tebay and knows Eribas. Reckons he can do a repair job and will also respray the bottom half of the van which is looking a little tired. Also going to respray the wheel arches which was on out to do list already and unsderseal the chassis. We are happy with the price and looking forward to getting the work done next week after our trip to Scotland. I'll post a couple of pics after the work has been done

That sounds good news. I hope it all pans out for you and is not financially to painful.

Repair Update
Collected our van from the bodyworks garage today.
Very pleased wuth the results. Micheal has done a first class job. Especially impressed with the re sprayed wheel arches which he's done with a metallic finish. Only problem now is that the top half of the van looks in need of a re-spray !
I'd be happy to pass on Micheals contact details if any one is interested.
I'll try to upload some pics if I can get the hang of it!

Just out of curiosity, i had been under the impression the panels were aluminium which will corrode but not rust but i notice your panels were rusting ?

The aluminiun body corrodes where it's connected to the mild steel frame members.

Good explanation here, Mono.

Yeah i know you get a dissimilar metal reaction a bit like a battery but on the original picture on the post it just looked like holes straight through the panel. i was just curious.

Not sure about the chemistry but yes it is like conventional rusting .The initial signs was bubbly paint that easily flaked off leaving thin crumbly metalwork that disintegrated into small holes. The soultion was to remove the "rusty"area and replace with glass fiber then a re spray.
Micheal didnt feel that the areas of rustwere too widespread and thought this solution should give the van a few more years life. i suppose in the long run the entire panel would have to be taken off and replaced.
