The reason they said, was that the towbar adds strength to the rear of the car reducing the likelihood of damage in small rear end shunts.

My son in law had a driver run into his tow bar. It bent his floorpan and wrote the car off. It was still useable though unlike the offending car which was a real mess.

That does sound strange. The towbar adds more expense to the vehicle and it could be argued cancels out the efficiency of some of the crumple zones, as such increasing potential personal injury claims.

I went with CarvanGuard which was £200 cheaper...

Thanks for that. I've just check CaravanGuard and they do quote less. I am confused why they insist a wheel lock even inside a locked garage.

When I first went with Towergate they also insisted on a wheel lock but on my second quote I managed to remove that tick without effecting my cover. I find it very hard to get my lock into place. My back doesn't like me getting down onto my hands and knees to fit it...

I had a similar experience with them with our 2018 Troll 542 , as we were newbies with zero claim bonus etc The caravan club was by far the best price , 2019 the premium dropped which was great but this year it went up over 20% far more than we paid in 2018. Did not really want to change but now with SAGA checked all the cover etc etc seems ok and they were just over £100 cheaper, and it’s been on our drive most of this year like us all 😕
