Motor Mover on Triton 430 is it recommended?

Hi Eriba community!

I'm new here and have already learned so much from reading all of your posts - so thank you for all of the helpful information! I am going to be a new Triton 430 owner soon and am wondering if I should fork out the money and get the motor mover installed? I'd most likely be travelling with the other half, and the two kids to mostly; Ireland, UK and France (where some people say the sites can be narrow or difficult to manoeuvre into). The place I intend to park it also has a bit of an incline...I suppose I'm hesitant because I'm worried that it's quite heavy, seems to reduce clearance, and...it's another thing that can break and be a pain if it fails! What do you gentlefolk think? I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Welcome and good choice. I'm now on my 4th Eriba [see my signature] and this is the first with a mover. I'm 59 in a few days and in good health, reasonably fit and strong. My advice is if you can afford it, buy it. I don't know why I did not previously have a mover fitted. I need my head testing.
Whilst you can on nice level ground move one with ease, trying to get one across rough ground, up a slight slope, lined up on the car for hitching, manouvered on mud or up a leveling ramp so true across the axle are all something a mover will tackle with ease and you with brute force would not find esy or infact safe at times.
Reich seem to be the default setting as mounting brackets for this make of mover are more available. A manual activation version is fine, and cheaper. Allow £1200 ish.
The Reich Easydriver Basic is about 30kg, so fine if you have a 1200kg axle [5 stud wheel] on the newer vans. If you have a 1000kg axle [4 stud wheel] you will have to be careful with the loading of your van Ground clearance on this is about 165/170mm, which is greater than the ground clearance to the bottom mount on the shock absorbers.

Before committing to a dealer fitted mover compare the prices of an independant supplier.

Reich's units are warranted for 5 years and they use the nationwide MCEA mobile caravan engineer's network for support

Hi and welcome to Eribafolk
We presume that your van is being bought new so will be a lot heavier than some pre 2000 models?
The reason I ask is that we've managed reasonably well for the past ten years without a mover and have visited most places both at home and abroad. In saying that, our Troll is only 1000kg laden (ish).
Looking at the comments from JohnE in post #3 above, would it perhaps be a good idea to try it without for a short while to see how you get on with it? If you then find that you need one you can get it retro fitted at home by an independant company.
By the way, are the kids old enough to have pushing power?

. We’ve had movers on last 2 vans, definitely a good idea.

Hi IBrowing,

I have a 2001 Troll , we had our Reich Motor mover fitted when I purchased the 'van in 2014, by Midland Motormovers in Walsall.
Our Troll lives on the drive which is quite steep and we couldn't operate without it. It has served us well without problem for 6 years .
One thing to watch is that your tyres on the caravan are kept up to their correct pressure so that the drive splines? make good contact with the tyres.
I leave my EHU hooked up the whole time it is parked up, and a Cetek charger keeps the mover battery charged, this was all fitted by Midland Motormovers.
I chose them because other members had recommended them.

Another vote for a motormover. Mrs C doesn’t do pushing and pulling. We have a Reich 1.8 Pro on our 420 and it is used every time out. On regimented CMC sites, because of the continental door location, you may be asked to position the van “nose to the peg” which can mean manual parking! One word of warning though - it is easy to swing the front end I.e. the bit with the very fragile plastic cover and it needs watching if you don’t want a £150 bill for a replacement cover.

Thanking you all for your replies...super helpful! It sounds like the motor mover is a helpful piece of kit. My kids are 5 and 7, so no muscle power from that end. And when I add up the load, extras etc. it will bring it up to 1200 kg., so I think I will go ahead and get it fitted. Thank you again - this is a brilliant resource for Eriba advice/info.
