Changes to our '79 Puck
Thought I'd start a little thread documenting the changes/maintenance done to the puck
Just as a reference for myself and maybe others who are doing similar
Always open to hints and tips plus corrections if I'm doing something wrong
Will add content as it happens ....

Wheel bearings removed and will be replaced with new. Just trying to find info regarding tightening up the hub. Is it tighten up then back off a little or is there a specific torque setting ?
Brake drums and wheels off to the blasters and will be painted to protect
New tyres ordered. Sidewalls were cracked on the tyres fitted
New brake shoes will be ordered tomorrow.
Jockey wheel removed, cleaned and re-greased
Pop top cleaned with milton sterilising solution and re-prooffed with Fabsil. Will probably replace over the winter
New curtains being made

The bearings must be packed with grease prior to assembly. Wearing a pair of nitrile gloves, pick up a goodly dollop of grease with the bearing and work the grease well into the rollers - you'll be surprised how much grease disappears.
Before fitting the thrust washer and hub nut smear some grease into the outer bearing.
To set your bearings, tighten the hub nut while rotating the drum until a slight bind is felt, then back off the hub nut 1/6 to 1/4 turn to the nearest locking hole - sufficient to allow the wheel to rotate freely with some minimal end play.
Eliminating end play completely when setting up will cause the bearings to run hot and bind - but too much end play isn't good either.
Always use new split pins of the correct size.
Fill the bearing's hub cap 2/3rds with grease to prevents water ingress to the hub assembly.
Your original bearings will have their part number on the outer ring - I try to match with SKF or Timken where available.
Try Simply Bearings for replacements -

After the trial run I decided a little more service was required on the brakes. No handbrake suggested things needed looking at. Completely cleaned up and freed off the cable ends on the equiliser bar and the brake rod. Greased and adjusted.
Took the lights apart, replaced all bulbs and tweaked the contacts. Full set of lights now apart from the running lights. Will check these out shortly.
Had an awning bead sewn in to a 'sail' tarp to use as a sun canopy. Will add pictures of that when in place
