Thanks for having us this will be our first Eriba which is on order and due for delivery in April the one we have chosen is a troll 540 GT. This is a great place to do research and finding out any potential problems at the moment we have a VW California Ocean which also has its own issues on build quality from time to time I just hope Eriba don't go down the same road as VW and try and live off their reputation from the past. We have had a number of caravans previously some with just minor problems some with major problems but on the whole we are looking forward to owning an iconic van. We are both looking forward to attending some gatherings so we can pick your brains for everything Eriba once this crazy situation has been sorted so until then keep safe.

Welcome to the forum and well done on the order. After the tears of spending all that money things should go well for you. Eriba's in recent years have had some bad press, and I'm guilty of some of it. In reality when you compare them to "normal" vans they are very good but not without fault. With new vans the vast majority of owners seem to go though 18 months of annoying niggles and then years of trouble free ownership. I'm sure you will love your van, I know I do with mine. That is why I've owned one since 2003.

Welcome from us also, we to collected our brand new 540 Troll GT last July and, like you have had a couple of vans before and a motorhome. It's Nicky's new Wendy house and she loves it. We managed four mini trips last year but really looking forward to an extended trip to the South of France soon, we hope .

Yes we read Eribas have their problems but what doesn't! Morgans and TVR's have issues and bits fall of 'em but we love them all the same. We are in North Dorset and can't wait for our first trip, hopefully somewhere close to Studland. Enjoy your new van.C & N.PS. Thanks to all of you out there for the great advice.

Hi BigGaz & welcome to the Forum.

The 540Gt is a great choice of van - we have ours since 2016 and love it. The flexibility of the layout really works for Kath and I.

We can still remember the excitement of waiting for our van - ours was delayed by Hymer for a couple of months which built up the excitement. Who are you getting your van from?

In terms of quality we have had a couple of issues. The main door twisted slightly and a hinge then broke. The other was an LED light failed - that was a loose wire. Both things were fixed under warrant.

The other issue was that we had the twin fuel boiler fitted as an extra. It worked when we picked it up from the dealer but when we went away it wouldn't hold the water hot. When we took it in to be serviced they found that Hymer hadn't fitted a non-return valve when they fitted the boiler. Again this was immediately rectified by the dealer. If your are getting the large inboard water tank & the boiler fitted as an extra may be just worth asking your dealer to check this non-return valve has been fitted. This happened to someone else on the Forum.

Think you will love your 540 GT when it comes and it is such a pretty van that you need to be prepared for lots of people asking to have a look inside it................!

Good luck

Thanks for that useful bit of information Mike I shall certainly mention that to the dealer, yes we are both really excited and can't wait to get away the dealer where we are purchasing the caravan from his Lowdham Nottingham I hope you get a bit better service than I've read on the forum but that's the same with VW camper vans and their dealers just as bad and just as hopeless

We've been busy buying more kit over the winter for our Troll and are just about there. Good fun. We think that the only issue we've had with ours was during our last trip of the year last October, I stepped out of the van whilst it was blowing a hooley and the door slammed behind me, tried to get back in but the door had locked. Luckily Nicky was still inside. When the door is closed gently it's fine but close it hard and it locks every time .Had someone not been inside which is where the keys were don't know what we would have done. We have now hidden a spare key outside. Any one else had that problem?

The door lock/catch on our 2017 Triton is not the greatest and I recall this has happened. I've tried packing out, loosening etc but found it is still the same.
When away from the van we usually leave one key hidden in the awning if it's being used and carry the other.
I've also got a spare in a small plastic pot, wrapped in a plastic bag and taped to the axle.

Thanks Colin, It's a strange one!
Further to a recent post we would be more than happy to give a guided tour of our 540 to anyone intersted in buying one. We're in North Dorset.

Hi Chas

That is strange as our door problem was exactly the opposite in that we struggled to get it locked, especially from the inside of the van. It got better when on the service AVL (in Tebay) worked on the twist in the door.

We suspect that we might have damaged the door hinge that broke and needed replacing when I too energetically slammed the door from the inside to get it locked.

We suspect that someone tried to use a screwdriver to open the door to get into the van because of some marks that appeared on the lock. We can't figure out exactly when it happened. It might have been when it was on the drive at the front of the house.

We keep a spare key in the car but often the car keys are in the door of the van..................not very bright that and need to give some thought to an alternative.!
