Should we buy?

Hi all, looking for some advice on a 2006 Puck we are considering buying as caravan first timers!
There is some small corrosion , and the chassis has been welded previously which may mean that it is now solid or that it is hiding a bigger problem? I’ve attached some photos as would like to know if you think these are fixable or what we should check further when viewing. We have only seen these photos so far. All advice welcome! Many thanks, Laura. FB_IMG_1615646697689.jpg - Bild entfernt (keine Rechte)FB_IMG_1615711291016.jpg - Bild entfernt (keine Rechte)FB_IMG_1615711334726.jpg - Bild entfernt (keine Rechte)

Laura,
I would walk away from it as It's not worth the risk. It could take a while but another van will come along. Having said that, Gumtree have a 2009 Puck and 2004 PuckL on at present.

As caravan first timers you do not need the grief or worry, keep looking; something that will fit the bill and not cause you worry will turn up.

Thank you both, I suspect you are right. I should say though that the owner has adjusted his offer price in light of the marks to around 4,000 so with that in mind it could be worth buying then paying to fixed up?

The deformation around top hinge is of no concern and should be left. The wind has simply caught the door and pulled the hinge back by probably a mm or so which would provide this shadow. This is fairly normal. The pitting to the front stone guard is normal. You could wire wool or scotchbrite this back and rattle can some new clear lacquer on for £10 and it would look like new. The corrosion around the door and around the bottom of the van is a different matter. You could easily be looking at £1K to £2K to fix this. The chassis corrosion could be a matter of having to lift the van body off the chassis to repair and a similar repair bill. These are worse case scenarios but likely, so best avoid the headache. A good 2006 van would probably be in the region of £8K so you would be no better off and probably have a bad headache.

Colin thankyou for the advice. Sounds like we need to be patient and wait until a better option comes along. We are in Scotland so less available due to travel restrictions at the moment.

Good idea. I think it is fair to say you will have to travel. When in Essex we bought from Berkshire, Belgium, Leicester and Nottingham. If it comes to a long journey just consider a day in the car and a tank of fuel is little cost or inconvenience for the subsequent years of ownership you will enjoy.
If you see something you like then ask for lots of pictures, place a refundable deposit and get to it asap.
