Hello,
Great to have found this forum :)
Just before Christmas I bought a lovely Famila. As a long time campervanner, this is my first caravan and I have never towed anything. Sadly it is still on my drive in Exeter due to lockdown. Am hoping to take it to Cornwall soon but have lost my confidence a bit as it has been so long. Towing class rearranged for mid May so fingers crossed I can get us both on the road!

Welcome to the forum Jane. Hope the class does the job and you can be off soon to Cornwall. We'll be passing through your way on the 5th on our way to The Rattery just north of Totnes.

Hello Jane
We too are long term campervanners now going down the Eriba route although a couple of stages behind you as we are making the final decision about our first tow car and then caravan. Exciting times but, as you say all the new information can be slightly daunting! Michael

Thanks Michael. I have tried to keep my campervanning fairly straightforward so there is a not of new things to think about! Good luck with your purchases. We will both be using this forum with our questions!

Hi Jane & welcome to the site.

Kath & I had never towed before and we went to a class together and we learnt loads.

Veterans on this site often print out a list of things to do before you set off. We still look at the one we printed out before every journey. Sorry but I can't remember who posted it originally but I'm sure someone will.

The other thing that was said to us was to take your time and always do a quick double check before setting of. I wasn't great at reversing so we got a motor mover fitted which are not cheap but makes it easier to move the van around.

Whatever I'm sure you will love your Familia and have great fun.

Thank you Mike

Good advice. Fortunately there is a motor mover already fitted so this will be very useful I'm sure.

I agree about taking your time. My first van was a 1972 VW. It was a great lesson in slowing right down!

Hi Jane

I understand that one.

In the mid 70s four of us went camping on the Isle of Aram with loads of stuff in an old VW camper. The engine was the smaller one and didn't have enough power. We had to get out and walk op some of the hills in Aran as it was struggling so much.

Great van though and my mate used it for years to go camping in the Lakes. It was a split screen in orange and white so people were drawn to admire it.

Enjoy your Eriba-ing
