IP67 / IP66 Hookup Connectors

Hi

I intend buying 2 hookup cables of different lengths (15m and 20m) to give me 3 options for connecting to remote hookup posts (15m, 20m, 40m)

I have read a lot of posts about joining cables together and have decided that I'd prefer to use IP67 connectors instead of IP44 with a connector cover.

I am concerned with the physical compatibility of the connectors. Can anyone tell me if an IP66 hookup socket will fit the connector on the side of my Eriba?

Thanks

I think you mean plug not socket. The images I can find show a screw top type end that I doubt will fit due to clearance.

A little out of my depth here but this is what I and I think Mr Motters can find.

I don't think it will fit either.

We rarely have to use a joined up cable ( 1 x 10 metre plus 1 x 25 metre = 35 metres ) and I have to admit that when we do I rarely use the torpedo shaped cover over the joint as although it's quite easy to use, it's always hiding somewhere in the bottom of a locker.

BOB I Checked with CMC about using those connection boxes, see above, they are a no goer on their sites would assume the same on CCC sites, We connected 2 leads together to reach the nearest ehu on the Wareham site and were told in no uncertain terms to disconnect immediately, this was tempered by the offer of a longer cable from the same warden which did reach the ehu so unless you are in France where anything seems to go I don;t see you having the option of a 40m

Michael,
I'm amazed they had the balls to tell you this. If it has a British Standards marking on it they really are pushing their luck.

Colin. We had a similar experence to Mick last year, at the Chester CMC site.

Didn't like a professional join in our 10 metre cable ( after an accident with a lawn mower) and told us in no uncertain terms that the splitter should'nt normally be allowed.

I can now answer my own question after a surprisingly fast delivery....yes an IP66 female connector (aka socket) is compatible with the male plug on the side of a 2019 Troll

By the way.. thanks for the comments, especially those regarding site wardens. Sound like typical examples of sensible H&S policy being "over-interpreted".

In terms of risk...an IP66 connection is secured with a threaded locking ring and designed to be capable of water submersion i.e. marine use.

Have you connected that cable to the supply yet?

I am mentioning this because if you flip the cable female end cover over the lid of the van socket (as you have done in your photo) on the other style of plug, the pins do not connect and so no power is fed to the van.

The flip-top cover has to slide into the socket on the van and acts as a safety lock and allows the pins to fully engage.

This may not be the case with the screw cap version but worth checking before you get on site.

Using an IP67 coupler (the bit on the lead) connected to an IP44 plug on the van is pointless, it will still only be rated at IP44 as a connection. Same goes at the bollard as everywhere we have camped in the UK use IP44 sockets on the bollard.
If the site objects to IP44 connectors joining a cable ask why. If it's a safety issue ask why they use IP44 on their bollard.
As far as I can establish the only problem with the ordinary IP44 connectors used to join cables is they shouldn't be left where water can pool around them. They are waterproof against rain and splashing water hence their use on supply bollards. I always lift mine off the ground when joining cables and have never been pulled up on it.

My pal who is a now a relief warden told me that joined cables are not allowed on CMC sites for the very reason above, they might end up laid in a pool of water HnS
