Fridge help - Sibir?

Hi again,

My '74 Familia has a Sibir S60 fridge, that runs on gas and electric. I've managed to get it working on the mains but have no idea on how to get it running on gas.

Anyone here have any experience of this model? If it's no good, what would be a direct replacement? Running on gas is essential.

Thanks as always.
Darren

I've never heard of Sibir fridges 'til now and a quick Google shows a set of instructions labelled Electrolux and a whole host of forum type queries where people can't get them to work on gas. I don't think they were ever original equipment and the pics suggest it isn't a flush fit. It may well be that the gas hasn't been connected and the fridge was only ever used on mains electricity. Getting a safe gas installation may be impossible or the gas valve etc may be u/s and spares not available. The best route is to get a Gasafe qualified person in to check it out and see if it can work.

Hi Darren

The reason you may be having diffucilty igniting the gas burner on the Sibir S60 could be due to the gas burner rating - it may require a gas input pressure of 50mb as opposed to the usual ~30mb supplied by modern regulators.

The fridge rating plate will show the required gas pressure.

If the gas rating is correct then a replacement burner + jet will be required as the original will be corroded, although I doubt very much that spares will be available.

If you can let me know the external dimensions of the fridge I'll see If I can source a Dometic or Thetford equivalent.

I have a reconditioned fully functional Electrolux fridge with new burner, jet and 230V element which may be a candidate for replacement.

If you're going to replace the fridge, wouldn't it be a better idea to replace it with the one the space in the van was designed for?

Hi Andy, what model would have been fitted? Still at the bottom of the learning curve here!

The Dometic RM4230was the go to fridge for decades, though I can't be certain about yours, you really need someone with a similar age van to be certain. http://eribaliving.blogspot.com/2011/10/...ge-in-here.html

You got me Googling.

The current replacement appears to be the Dometic RM5330
