The value of a multimeter

Hello all. As a relative newbie (2007 430Triton since Jan 2021) I was dismayed to find first my external whale pump stopped working, and then a day or two later my toilet flusher stopped working. We finished the holiday week away in the Purbecks (June 12 to 19, 2021) with hand- carried water - so no great problem. Once home I set about checking fuses, tracing wires and looking for a good 12V at the switches and to the pumps. I had bought a digital multimeter (£20 Amazon) at the suggestion of “The Trudgeons”. The two “take-out” were 1. Do not believe what the Eriba manual says about what appliance is wired to which circuit - mine are quite different. 2. When a pump says it wants 12V, it means 12V. 11.2V is not enough! The meter was sufficiently accurate to show this difference. It led me to think “Why only 11.2 Volts?” And then “Ah, there must be some resistance somewhere”. I traced the resistance to a dodgy barrel connector in the toilet room under the sink. This had corroded enough to affect the electrical connection. I think this was due to a historic, minor drip from the tap above. Changed this, and all is working as it should. So learning from experience (LfE) => get yourself a multi meter. Good for checking level of battery charge as well!😀

Make sure when you buy your meter that it has an 'audible continuity' function - worth the little bit more that you pay! available on fleabay and other reliable sources for under a tenner (buy two and leave one in the van)!
