Our long cupboard door came off in my wife's hands last week. ALV were servicing the van anyway and put it back on but said that it was in danger of coming off again.
I am toying with some preventive action by putting on and extra hinge in the middle of the door.
I have shown this as where I have placed the magnetic hinge, just to get my middle in the photo - obviously I will use a similar hinge to those fitted by Hymer.
Has anyone else tried this on their van and was it a success?

I don't have that problem in my 2007 Triton but if I did I would consider piano hinge. You can get it in brass or plastic. It's only fixed with small screws so isn't going to damage the door or framing but lots of small screws will take the weight.

Hi Mike , I had the very same last week whilst on holiday in Devon , being a joiner I went to screwfix and bought 25 mm x 3 screws for the frame and 30 mm x 3 for the doorwhich are considerably longer than the original , I did have to make the countersink in the hinges bigger ,but I did most doors and it seems successful to date ..Tony

After having 4 top locker doors replaced under warranty within 1st year I took all the hinges off existing and new, countersunk the hinges slightly and refitted with longer screws and glue. None have worked loose.
I was in Leisure First in Dorset today and they told me they fit the check straps similar to link on all new vans supplied.

Thanks Colin
Checked all the cupboards today and a good half of them had screws that needed some tightening. Think I will be following your plan of re-driiing and putting in some longer screws.
Checked the cupboard door that ALV put back on last week and they have replaced the original screws with very slightly bigger headed ones

The larger screw heads also cause a problem. The flap can remain “hinge bound” when it is latched in position as opposing screw heads are pushing against each other, putting tension on the hinge and stoping it from closing fully.

The positioning of the hinges is the primary cause of their failure I feel ie along the bottom of the cupboard.
I've found if something made of material flaps onto the gap between the front edge of the cupboard then when you close the door the material acts as a fulcrum and forces the door away from the cupboard: even if you push the contents back (the springiness of material sometimes pushes it back out again before the door is shut). The hinge is bent and/or the screws are pulled out and this is what causes the door to become loose.
I dont seem to get this problem when there are boxes/pots/cups etc in the cupboard.
I'm planning to fit a plasic strip along the bottom edge to hold loose material away from the front edge to see if that helps: will let you know when iv'e done so,

As promised, heres my solution to preventing clothing/ floppy stuff getting wedged in the hinge gap when closing the cupboard door.
Its a piece of PVC electrical cable protective channelling (75p for 2m from Wickes) that has been cut to length with scissors and affixed using double sided tape
I'll let you know its performance in due course:)
