Holes in the woodwork - eeeeek!

Tomorrow I aim to cut two holes in the internal wookwoork to alter 2 existing 3pin single power points into double points. One is near the floor at the front under a bed and the other in the solid bulkhead above the cutlery drawer. My son will come over and help with the final fitting and the all important wiring connections, but tomorrow I have to bite the bullet and cut some larger holes to take the new fittings. I am guessing my hole cutting discs will suffice as I don't have a jigssaw.

I think I'd rather use a padsaw, Derek, as the wood is very thin and a slip with a power saw could be disastrous.

If you match up the correct hole saw blade with the socket fitting it will make a neater cut than a pad saw, I think.

Agreed so far Tone, before I even look at it later. I don't have a pad saw either. Thanks for your input Brian

I'd end up making the job much more complicated than necessary so if you can do it with a power saw, it makes sense.

I will be using a power tool with hole cutter.

Practise first Derek!
Have you bought the sockets yet?
Do they need one large hole or two. The usual pattress box on the back is circular on a single socket but I have not seen behind a double.

Job jobbed as they say. There were two double units and each socket has one circular pattress each. Slight discussion needed with the chef on position of one of them but sorted amicably. Hopefully young Snowdon will be here on Monday to round it off. Now only one double unit to fit and we reposition the single where that goes and the previous single goes near the wardrobe on the sink bulkhead.

OK as you asked, here are the two locations and the units ready to be fitted.

Yes there is some dust - from the drilling and yes one hole is slightly larger 5mm as I didn't have the exact size to match.
The odd shaped notch is where one of the bed supports slots in with an added slot which I added when there was often an extension fitted in the plug with a lead all the way through to the cupbaoard alongside the sink.

Yes thanks, but the electirc bits my son will do.The worst part as you mentioned was the bending, kneeling and then getting up again.
Are you in foreign fields yet?

All is now clear. The wood isn't thin. Thanks for that.

Job complete apart from cleaning out the bits of cable and the drilling dust. That's on Wednesday I reckon.
Photos here and yes the double one is not quite in line but whowever is going down so low to examine and do I care?

Oh dear my mistake.
Where the twin pair are I found I couldn't get a plug in as the cord below the 3 pin plug will not bend sufficiently to allow for the spare wheel cover below. In the end I used an adaptor and that worked but foiled the whole idea, but I did have to put the telly on for the football.
Now - today I am going to alter them both by unscrewing the units and turning them sideways and that should be easy!!
