Spring Core Upholstery

This may seem like an odd question, but how do I tell if we have spring core upholstery in our Eriba. It was new last year and this was one of the ‘extras’ we paid for. However, just recently when doing the winter clean it struck me that it just seems to be foam ? Is anyone aware of a test, or something I should be looking for which would put my mind at rest about this ?

You do not say if you have a fixed bed at the back, where it would be easier to check. If you slide your palm under the mattress whilst it is in position then with the weight naturally pushing down onto your palm you should be able to feel the shape of the springs.
Unlike some earlier vans I believe you should not have sprung upholstery at the front. The foam in this area seems to be a bit of a lottery, on our van anyway, as after 5 summers one side is in perfect as new condition whilst the other is a bit squishy.

Morphy - a quick check and yes indeed the foam is pink

Colin - its a Triton 420 so not a fixed bed, rather several components of cushions which all fit together ! Its all currently being stored in the house so I might try your test on one of the bigger cushions.

Thanks for your help both. 🙂

The spring core option is just on the long main seat / bed cushions. If you can 'bounce' on it then it's sprung - also they are heavy.

Yes, IIRC having the interior metal sprung seating in the lounge area uses 10kg of payload. So one side would weigh about 11lbs more than the standard foam version, which should make it fairly heavy to lift, even without a foam one for comparison. As they get older you tend to be able to feel the springs as bumps in the surface when you run your hand over it..
