Understanding my battery

here is a pic of my battery - it's reasonably new and seems to be charged OK in that the lights are working in the caravan :)
However: how do I know when it's charged/not charged/in danger of running out....
Is it maintenance free or do I have to top it up??? I know I should keep it charged, but if I dont know when its runnng out... ?
There is a charger next to it but i cant see anything that lets me know if its charged - in my campervans i had a little guage with a needle...nothing on this...

I've tried googling and cant find any specific info...

Sorry for the daft questions !

If you think this is daft, this is before how do I get the bit of pop top that surrounds the top of the loo room to go back into the rail ...I only took it out to gt the fly net down to wash it...wish I hadnt now lol

A multimeter across the terminals will tell you the voltage in the battery or you could get an auto electrician to wire in a meter to show the same thing. If you can take the battery out and leave it attached to a good smart charger that will keep it in an optimal state 'til you need it. Otherwise trust to luck connect up to the house mains every month or so for the day to make sure it's topped up.

As to the canvas bit round the washroom, surely it goes back in the opposite way to how it came out, probably best to do it when the weather has warmed a bit though.

I fitted one of these. Gives battery voltage and/or percentage charged. Wired up across the battery terminals.

One of my 540s had a battery voltage meter fitted on the end of the roof locker above the kitchen, so it was visible as you entered the van. Providing you weren't seeing stars having lacerated your bald spot on the doorframe.

I never did check it out but presumably somebody had run cable from the nearside rear lounge bed box, where the battery resided, across (presumably under the van) and up into the cupboard under the sink and somehow up into the roof locker. I never even bothered to clock the wires and their routeing and it's only now I'm wondering how it got up from the under cupboard into the roof locker without being visible.

IIRC that was in the '01 van, not the ex-Frantone '05 version.
