A cautionary tale - We’re having our first trip away this year to Pembrokeshire and after the usual set up, turned the gas on to make a brew and instantly smelled gas. After much checking and tightening (with borrowed spanners) discovered that the Gok regulator on my 2 year old 540GT merrily venting from the left diaphragm. Luckily I managed to get a replacement quite near by and the replacement has fixed the issue…. But recommend that everyone carries the correct spanners (worth checking in situ as it’s a tight space) and a PZ2 screwdriver. Here’s the offending part-

The yellow caps on Truma/Gok 2-stage regulators are over-pressure release valve and will rupture if there's an internal fault to prevent high pressure from the cylinder entering the caravan's low pressure pipework and appliances.
These regulators are prone to failure and during a busy caravan season I get called out regularly to replace them.
I prefer to fit the equivalent Cavanagh regulator which are also 2-stage, and with the same flow rate of 1.5kg/h, but infinitely more reliable - and furthermore, half the price of the Truma.

Whatever happened to the Great Regulator Gunk Up?
Back in 2008 we purchased a brand new Adria motorhome and on its second trip out the regulator went u/s due to oiling up.
At the time it was happening to lots of new and newish vans and there was a loud outcry.
I recall there were industry meetings where Truma said it wasn't the design of their regulator, hose manufacturers said it wasn't anything to do with the hose materials and LPG distribution companies said it wasn't anything to do with their gas or cylinders.
Gradually the problem subsided and you only hear of the odd issue now and then these days.
So what was the problem and why has it reduced so much?
I had nothing to do on this hot afternoon
But to settle down and write you a line
