Going to look at some Eribas today
in Anything Eriba-related Sat Apr 23, 2022 10:04 amby Digby (deleted)
Well finally after a lot of huffing and puffing I have convinced my dear wif that an Eriba caravan MAYBE a good upgrade from our campervan.
Shown her our brother in laws Jetstream which is dinky and told her the Eriba is even better.
So today we're driving down to Leisure First in Poole for a sniff around.
Personally I think we're looking for the smallest Triton with a bathroom but what do I know !! Complete caravan novices.
Had some useful pointers from you guys in the last month or so but I'll probably have many questions by the end of the day.
Looking forward to becoming a proper member of the Eriba community.

yup !
Couldn't resist.420Gt 2016.
£500 deposit.
My wife however insists we hang onto the VW Cali and put a tow bar on.
Wasn't my plan.
I was for selling the shiny VW and financing the purchase of the Eriba and a tow car from the money.

Despite the eye watering price (£21k) the new beast doesn't have a hot water feed !
I believe they are quite complicated and expensive but would like that facility.
Thoughts ?
Recommendations ?

I fitted electric hot water to our last van, it is not a difficult job, you just need to be methodical. The only bit that you might find scary is drilling a 60mm hole through the side of the van so you can feed the 30/35L onboard tank needed for the boiler. [others use an aqua-roll]
The choice would be down to a 5L Truma or 10L Propex. The Truma has a set temperature and despite the low power 400w element does give 2 sinks of washing up water in about 15/20 minutes. This low wattage proves useful on continental sites. I'm guessing a self fit would cost about £700 for on=board tank and boiler. You are lucky in that your van already has a hot/cold tap, so that could be £120 saved.
Cattanks, Leisure Shop Direct and Clearcut Conversions will stock most of what you need.

Congrats on your purchase.
Just to correct one part of your OP, all Tritons are the same overall size. The differences are in the internal layout.
The same applies to the Familias which all have the same external size.
Trolls are slightly different in that they're all the same length, but up until 2010 they were mostly the same width as the Tritons. Just before 2010 a few Troll models were widened by 4ins and after 2010 all were 4ins wider.
I had nothing to do on this hot afternoon

If you weigh the cost of installation is it worth it? Our French 2008 Familia doesn't have hot water or leisure battery and haven't really found it a problem , also less to go wrong, less weight and more storage space?

Lots of info on the forum if you use the search, but to summarise:-
Insurance, C&MC very expensive. These three seem to be coming out at sensible prices for most owners:-
-https://www.lifesure.co.uk/personal-insu...ravan-insurance
- https://cover4.alanblunden.co.uk/
Security - you need insurance approved deterrents, usually two. The genuine Alko hitch lock and a Nemesis or Bulldog Euro wheel clamp are favourites.
Reversing Camera - a few owners use them, but not many
You should find it easier to tow the Eriba than your trailer as you can see and feel it. Do not worry. If unsure the C&MC do a towing course at reasonable cost [£180 for the day?] that runs at I think 13 or 14 locations across the country.

Edit - Water, the heating and to a lesser extent on-board tanks is one of the great divders for Eriba owners. Just don't mention awnings.

Hi Digby, well, you've been and gone and done it, congratulations, let the fun begin. Hot water? An absolute must for us. When we bought the van even the salesman suggested a quick rub down with the sporting life was more than adequate, sorry but most of our trips away involve full days on the beach and return covered in salt, sand and sun cream so a strip wash just doesn't cut it for us. We tend to spend most of our time away on Temporary Holiday Sites so no showers available. We have rigged up a perfectly useable external shower set up, using our hot tank and the shower hose through the washroom window. Works a treat, and no complaints from the neighbours so far! We are, it seems, happy to spend top dollar on our wonderful vans so why not get what we want!
