Cleaning the upholstery

Some years ago we made the mistake of buying a couple of G-Plan sofas and an electric recliner finished in a cream fabric that soon began to show the dirt. Having employed a local cleaning firm at great cost yet with indifferent results in the past, this time we decided to look for a DIY alternative.

We decided on the BIssell Spotclean Pro which cost us £134 including delivery from Amazon Prime.

The results were astonishing and the furniture now looks like new again - much better than the 'professional' effort - but the water in the 'dirty' tank was an embarrassing muddy brown colour. Where did it all come from and how had it become ingrained in the fabric when we don't have pets?

Anyway this success led to an orgy of cleaning so I decided to try the new toy out on our caravan seats. Although they didn't look too bad, the dirt that came out of them had to be seen to be believed, particularly that from the narrow transverse bench across the rear of the van that receives no use at all.

Using the cleaner is simplicity itself, you simply mix up the cleaning solution in its tank and spray it onto the fabric, scrub with the bristles in the hand unit and then suck the dirty water out through it. It really is very powerful and the seats dried out quickly out in the sun.

My only criticism of this machine is the noise. It sounds like a Rolls Royce Spey on test and you really do need to wear some sort of hearing protection. Apart from that, five stars and highly recommended.
