A question about wheels.

Hi everyone. I mounted 13" wheels on my tritone. Once approved, I can, if I want, fit 14" wheels. The question is: are there any advantages? Thank you

Now I have 185/70R13-84K wheels mounted, but it is possible to mount 175/70R14-84K; 185/70R14-88K or (and these are the ones that interest me the most) 195/70R14-91K. Since Mother Eriba proposes these measures,I am not concerned about installing them in their place.. What do you think?

Hi Giancarlo. Not an expert on wheel sizes but our 13" wheels are only 4 stud whereas Eriba 14" wheels are 5 stud I think

I've just found a 2004 model year Triton 430GT on 14" wheels for sale and it has 5 studs. Our 2005 model year Triton 430GT is on 13" wheels and it has 4 studs... Different axle perhaps? Were the uprated chassis supplied with 5 stud wheels? Or is it a BPW/Alko thing? Ours is Alko.

On the age of van in question, for a UK specification van, I've always used the rule of 4 stud = 1000kg whilst 5 stud = 1200kg.

I read an article on here recently where someone drove their Eriba to an Alko factory in Germany and got their chassis uprated (new innards). Would that have also included change of wheel size? If not then why did they fit 14' / 5 stud wheels to 1200kg chassis when bought new? Just trying to justify the price hike? Or was it part of a package of upgrades bought at the time of ordering? I have never bought bought a new one, so no idea... :-)

Simon, ours and I believe most pre 2000 Tritons and Trolls have a 1000kg max weight and all have 4 stud 13" wheels.

Simboc, that may have been my story of getting my axle uprated from 1000kg - 1200kg. There was references in the process to a change in wheel to reflect the uprated load and that would have meant a change from the 4 stud wheel currently fitted to 5 stud (as it seemed it would have to be the case). To be honest, search as I might, I could not find any rating for the 4 stud ali wheel that had been fitted from new, so I decided to stick with them. After all, the load I would usually carry on a trip, that proved to exceed 1000kg (and hence the axle upgrade) had always been the case and the wheels had handled the load..

Yes, it was your article, I've found it now - I was very tempted to do the same, but I think a move to a Troll is more likely now. I don't know what the original cost of the upgraded axle was when new, I'm guessing the 14' wheel upgrade helped make it look better value! It's hard to see that the 13" wheel couldn't cope with the increased load. Or do 14" wheeled vans have more ground clearance? Dependent on tyre profile, I suppose.

cheers, Simon
