Zig x7 charger is hot...

We're away in the van at the moment. Connected to EHU for several hours. While making the bed up noticed that the battery charger seems very hot. Can't remember if this is normally the case but felt best to unplug it. It cooled down ok. Tried disconnecting the battery and connecting EHU again. Charger got hot, maybe not as hot as before, but not sure. Would appreciate thoughts and advice about this please.

Something similar happened to us in France in 2018. Our Amperor smart charger's fan could be heard running for the first time in six years and the seven year old-leisure battery was hot and gurgling. That was the culprit.
We had to buy an obscenely overpriced car battery to be able to continue using our mover but have had no further problems.
If you have a voltmeter, check the voltage across the terminals. Fully charged it should be about 13.5V and with charger connected about 13.8V. Is it holding a charge?

It's a good plan to have a voltmeter connected across the battery and visible easily in the van. They do some good ones with USB/USB-C outlets, making it even more useful. My tracker also sends me extra information, which I get on the computer at home or through an app on my phone, including battery state- also very useful for keeping track of how it is. Particularly handy over the winter. A fried battery can be nasty, so well spotted.

I have a good quality Lascar LCD voltmeter fitted across the battery terminals and mounted on the side of the wardrobe. Previously I had a cheap LED one but the light from it was annoying at night and it only lasted a couple of years before failing. They aren't cheap (about £44 delivered) but they are well worth the cost and very simple to fit.

Thank you for all your replies. I will be getting a meter for sure.
Assuming the battery is functioning properly, how hot should the charger be? We've been plugged in all day with battery in place and the charger is warm on the front - you can leave your hand there fine. At the top facing the van wall however it is much warmer and uncomfortable to leave your hand there for more than 10 seconds or so...

As promised, I checked the temperature of our charger whilst away - then forgot to post the results... Sorry!
I found it was always warm to touch just maintaining the charge whilst hooked up to the mains. When topping up the charge after using the motor mover it got somewhat hotter, but never too hot to handle.

Thank you for the update Simboc. That is reassuring.
Ours hasn't got as hot as it was when initially charging the battery.
