Door hinges

I’m literally just curious, I don’t need any hinges for my eriba & just thought they just look like a cheap die cast hinge & for that reason I thought it might be handy to have in my toolbox just in case the wind caught the door and broke one, it would be holiday over and for that reason I just followed a couple of people buying/selling them & couldn’t believe how much for a tiny little hinge. Heck if it was a car you’d buy two bottom suspension arms for the cost of a tiny hinge. Rant over.

an elastic string is cheaper to tie to the handle to handle on waist band thus slowing down impending doom.
has anyone broke one?

cast can be welded, it needs warming up green fairy soap.

The alloy outside door hinges are surprisingly robust. I cannot recall anybody having one break.

Hi.
I have a cracked hinge on our Eriba 320GT 2012 . It's the part that connects to the van. Best place to get one please. Thanks in advance.

I wonder if they can be machine made ?

It’s good to know because they really just look like a cheap little die cast, obviously better & stronger than they look but still incredibly expensive

I saw that earlier Roger and cannot believe the price of the replacement.

The problem with castings is always the production and cost of the mould. Those costs will remain the same however many you produce. If you make a million it spreads the cost out far more than the few thousand they will make each year for Eribas... The smaller the production run, the higher the inbuilt costs. Just economics. And Hymer profiteering, of course...

Or Printed in Carbon-reinforced material with both sides to take a steel pin?

The Kool Classics link shows the bottom hinge - I never expected the two to be different, but then realised one slopes out to the waistband and the top one slopes in from there. It’s a more complex shape than I thought!

When I had to modify our door striker plate to make the door fit tighter onto the seal, I used Evo-Stick Metal Epoxy and was amazed by the strength of the bond.

I'd give that a try before forking out silly money for a replacement.
